1.0.6 JWM Display Manager does not quit

#1 Post by kethd »

Choosing
Control Panel > JWM configuration
launches JWM_Display_Manager

But then clicking on the X to close that window and abort the function, instead just continues right along to launch
JWM_Display.

Yep, It is coded as a 'splash screen'. That behaviour is the expected one. So, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

Currently Amanda, the developer for that configuration tool is sick. I know that she was thinking on adding more functionality. This may be a good suggestion.

As a practical matter, this behavior in this instance is not much of a concern.

But as a design principle, buttons should produce consistent actions as much as possible. And consistently exiting/closing/aborting with minimal fuss is a core user interface issue.

As a design principle, if there is going to be a splash screen which only continues to another screen, no matter what the user does, it would be better if the X and any other buttons that don't work did not appear.

Incidentally, anyone can hack on Amanda'a program
-- it's at ibiblio.org Puppy download site, in the pupgets folder, and is called "jwmconfig" -- can't recall what version.
It's Bash/Ash script, uses gtkdialog for the GUI.
