skype video

#22 Post by menno »

I got the .pet file running in 3.99 and 4.0 with video .
I had to download new modules for my webcam .

With 2.xx as far I know is cann't work there the libst++ need new variable's .
I think this has to do with the kernel version .

ive got this problem with the .63 pet and the latest static, where if i execute in from an icon the sound doesnt work, but if i click the binary or run ./skype from the installation dir it works ...

why could this be ??

(when sound doesnt work, the option to make test sound is greyed out.)

well i found a work around,

creating a script in the skype binary dir (in my case static version)

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
cd /root/pups/skype_static-2.0.0.72/
./skype
and then shortcut this to the desktop (drag+drop), change the icon and name.

Hi everyone

I'm using this with Puppy 4 and also with wNOP v0.2. Everything seems to be OK but... How can I change the font size???
With the Windows version there's an option inside the messaging windows, but I don't see that option at Linux.
Thanks for any help!

Hello everyone. I am a bit new to the puppy distros. I found this forum link while trying to get skype to work with webcam video. I have Muppy Minisys installed and I installed the above file for skype and the thing ran great one time but then everytime afterwards it just pops up a box that says please reinstall skype? I tried removing the program with the pet manager and it removed it and then I reinstalled the skype again, but it didn't help, gives same message. I tried to remove the directory as mentioned above too but this did not help either. It worked great that first time, I even used the webcam and tried to connect with my father throught skype. After I rebooted the PC this problem occurred. Any help much appreciated here.

Thanks
Eric

Is this pet file okay for Puppy 4.11 k2.6.25.16? It didn't work for me. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

Seems there are so few files in the pet (used pet2tgz then pupzip to view)...

Can you upload it somewhere else? I'm getting this message

Just got a 404 Not Found error when trying to download it again.

However, I found a similarly named PET file on my system lying around. I can't remember if I compiled it myself (on the older kernel) or if this was the original from Wolf Pup. Inside the PET, it looks like the PET was made Jul 28, 2008. It's probably Wolf Pup's.
# ls -ltra --block-size=1m *skype*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 21 2008-08-06 21:14 skype-2.0.0.72.pet

Anyway, installed it on Puppy 4.10 k2.6.25.16 and it seems to work.

Hi everybody,

I've just installed Skype and got an account. So basically it seems to work. My problem at this time is the test call: I hear the automatic voice, my microphone is on and loud (I can hear it in the speakers if I blow to it or scratch), but I can't hear my message they send automatically back. Only the automatic voice.
Has anybody a idea what's wrong?

I tried it with EeePc 900 and Ripple_63, a Derivative of Puppy 4.1.1

Rolf

Edit: I just tried it also with Puppy 4.1.1 with exactly the same problem.

I'm having the same issue as the above poster.

Skype installed fine. My video works fine. when calling people, their video turns up way scratchy unviewable and the program crashes.

I also can't get the mircophone to work at all.

The computer:
Dell 2400
1.6 ghz processor (or maybe 2.6)
256MB ram
80GB hard drive

The webcam: microsoft VX 1000

Thanks in advance!

Just FYI guys, the newest Skype is always available and it runs pretty well by just as a static download which is found here: http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/choose/

Not that it isn't nice as a .pet though. Just extract anywhere and run the "skype" icon.

That's actually what I did and I'm still having the issues above.

This question was answered in this thread by user Peppyy. It is the message that gives instructions for properly configuring alsamixer. It may be found at this url: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 8&start=15

I followed these instructions in Puppy 4.1.2 on my eeepc 701 and it worked like a charm.

I followed those without luck. Strange. the microphone is on the USB camera though. Perhaps that could be a factor?

Hi, I've read this complete thread before I started posting here.

At last I'm a step further:
Even microphone was working (in my opinion), there was no 'mic boost' in alsa mixer. I found a pet from tempestuous here: eee-snd-hda-intel-patched-k2.6.25.16.pet http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 787a018b07
With internal mic it doesn't work but with a headset and all controls to max (I hear myself even breathing but now the background noise is very loud) I can hear my resended message low and dull.
For now I think it's a problem of the Eee900 series.

I had installed the eee-snd-hda-intel-patched-k2.6.25.16.pet package on my eeepc 701 4g when I installed the operating system. That is probably why the directions worked for me as described in the post. In watching the eeeuser forum I have observed some issue specific differences between the 701 and 900 series models being posted so maybe that is the culprit here.

I got it :D

For Eee 900 there are 3 pet's from tempestuous necessary:

eee-snd-hda-intel-patched-k2.6.25.16.pet
acpid-Eee-7x-900.pet
eee-asus_acpi-pciehp-k2.6.25.16.pet

Now Skype works fine for me also with internal microphone.
Have a nice xmas time

So, I gather that no one has any idea of how to adjust the fonts on skype? They do seem awfully small to me. T Hobbit asked about this earlier... but he received no reply.
