I cutdown icewm and wbar to use default puppy files where available - no blinky or freememapp icewmconfig, the brushmetal theme was cleaned up with symlinks to redundant files, replaced some lib* files and icons with symlinks to included files or edited the appropriate config files directly to point at default versions.
Known issues: reboot/shutdown still freeze -> use exit to prompt then ctrl+alt+delete or shutdown from the prompt ....anyone know the fix - i know I have seen it on here but can't seem to find it
I have been running this as a pup_412.sfs (I renamed pup_412.sfs to zdrv_412.sfs) and it has been working great so far. This is part one of a multistep plan to release a puplet that allows you to choose from a large selection of window managers, web browsers and other applications at bootup without loading them all into ram. I will post the sfs - here & md5

Superb, instant mac at zero cost. I know a few mac/puppy linux users this will be great for.

I just tried your .pet package in a fresh frugal install of 412retro.
Both Reboot & Shutdown function as normal, the problem was with Restart X server.
It left me at a black screen which required me to hit the reset button to get out of it.
Well i have been here before, and i recall reading of a fix (i think by gray)
So, when back in Puppy i commented out lines 24 & 25 of: /usr/X11R7/bin/restartwm
did Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, typed xwin and when back at the desktop
i did Restart X server from the Menu, and it functioned fine.

I didn't need it, i was just testing it. (curiosity and all that)
I am quite happy with my Puppy 4.00 install at present, iceWM & wbar included.

Good idea. I would like to see a cutdown wbar.pet separate from your updated icewm.pet as well, unless you can come up with a way to have wbar only called when icewm is the default wm.
The reason I'm looking for this is to duplicate, sort of, what the extra panel does in Zigbert's modifed JWM for Deepthought. When you switch from JWM to Icewm you lose the application launch bar because it is JWM-specific. By the same token, I don't want to change the launch bar in JWM because it fits the consistent look and feel of the desktop interface.
If Wbar can be made small enough, I might be persuaded to include it. Otherwise it will go in the list of applications available as a dotpet from PETget. It also needs a GUI configuration utility similar to what Zigbert has provided for the JWM top panel. That shouldn't be too hard to do, given that wbar depends on a single text configuration file and the application order is arbitrary.
Some nice work happening here guys. We all seem to be on the same page when it comes to Puppy Deepthought. That makes my role much easier to manage. Thanks and well done!

I'll try moving the line that starts wbar inside a wm check for icewm in xinit ... it shouldn't be that much to split them up either - I have gotten the combo down to 780k - it should be ~500k for icewm & ~300k for wbar. I guess I'll wait to see what ttuuxxx does and work from that - my changes were pretty minimal - just removed some stray files.
For wbar to be a separate package a script would probably need to go to the startup folder with the line from xinit to start it and maybe checks for compatible window managers? - maybe even use separate config files to dock on top or bottom (/root/.wbar) based on the location of the taskbar - I'd need to learn a few more bash tricks first to do this so I hope it doesn't come to that.

I have complete confidence in you, technosaurus. For Icewm, the /root/.icewm/preferences file indicates the location of the taskbar. You could parse that to find out which option is active.
I'm hoping ttuuxxx changes the way his Icewm package determines the current wm. The defaultwm file (in /etc I think) governs which wm boots with X, so it should be easy enough to check that to see what is the current wm. I'm not writing from my own machine ATM, so I can't give you the exact filename and location. Sorry.
Hope that helps.

Ok its all done, I
-removed the 2 xinitrc files,
-replaced the bins with my new smaller icewm bins
-removed a couple of bins that weren't needed
-removed the mac theme and replaced it with my new icewm theme
-installed the jwm2icewm switch for jwm
-installed freememory applet & Blinky
-put the wbar ontop of the desktop window
-updated the icewm files
and I think thats about it, picture and download below
to start it up, just install the pet and menu/shutdown/restart X Server or reboot PC
enjoy ttuuxxx
Ps you should have any issues now with shutdown and also 1 thing still bugs me, the house icon opens webdesktop when it should be ROX, I think I might change it and include an icon for webdesktop. Most people are used to the home icon being ROX and not a folder, Plus its confusing when switching from JWM to ICEWM and the icons don't match with executes.

Hello ttuuxxx
I have been testing your latest package: newIcewmBar-v2.pet
and it has some serious faults.
The following was done in a fresh frugal install of 4.12retro.
Installed your package, ran fixmenus and restarted jwm
no problems there, i could see the new Menu entries.
I then tried the following whilst still in JWM:
1. Exit to prompt (it did)
Typed: xwin
and it came back up with IceWM (complete with wbar)
So i exit to prompt again and type: xwin jwm
and it came back up with JWM (minus the desktop icons, apart from trash & drives )
2. Reboot computer (it did)
3. Power-off computer (it did)
4. Restart X server (it did)
5. Restart JWM (it did)
6. Restart with IceWm (it did, minus the wbar)
Now i did the following whilst in IceWm:
1. Exit to prompt (it did)
Typed: xwin
and it came back up with IceWM (still without wbar)
2. Reboot computer (it did)
3. Power-off computer (it did)
4. Restart X server (it did, the first time i tried, on the second try i was left at a black screen, and neede to hit reset button)
5. Restart JWM (it did)
From the JWM Menu, i tried: Restart with IceWm
I was left at a black screen (needed to hit reset button again)
When back at the desktop it was in IceWM (still without wbar)
6. Restart with IceWm (it did, minus the wbar)
I have tried to be exact as i can with this report,
but needless to say, there are things that need fixing.
I am only trying to help.
