(running 4.1.2.)
I bought this new HP job in mistake for an earlier model number so I'm relieved to find it is Puppy compatible. The only difficult and time-consuming bit was in finding Wolf Pup's excellent PET, which is here - http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/bugs/hpijs-2.8.10.pet. See thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=26565.
Just downloaded and installed the PET, rebooted Puppy, set up the printer in CUPS (F4100 series are now added to the listing), and away; intuitive process with no newbie-scaring steps requiring command-line intervention.
I've still to investigate the scanning facility on his machine, which I fear may require the (very heavy) hplip download - others may wish to comment on this.
Great job, Wolf Pup.
HP Deskjet F4180 works

I would recommend trying first the lite version, hpliplitedogle wrote:(running 4.1.2.)

Lluis, top marks and thanks for your detailed and painstakingly updated guidance.
Your work is likely to help very many, given the growth in 'all-in-one' printer kit in the market ..... if they know about it.
Maybe it would be good to have your thread - or just your leading post - relocated as a HOWTO, or as a sticky in the hardware => printers area, to help promote awareness.
