Puppy 1.0.3

#1 Post by Lobster »

Been playing . . . first with Puppy 1.03 and then the barebones Dillo 1.0.3

This Dillo version is very interesting. I think the largest download I ever attempted with 33.6k modem was 25 meg.

Puppy I feel is well worth the 39 meg Dillo install. Loads of Linux for your download. I got a couple of Error messages with the Dillo version for the Browser and the (Abiword) desktop Icons

that is ERROR = BROWSER LABEL
ERROR = WORD LABEL

I think I will have to try the Multi-Session next.

Great job by Barry (as usual)
I am happy to report that I can hear and record sound (as in 1.0.1) for 1.0.3 and I have been using Mozilla, Gaim, mtpaint and so on

I really hope that others too report success with 1.0.3
then I will load FireFox on the Dillo version and put it on my 64 meg keydrive . . .

:)

At this moment I am downloading all three versions and just would like to thank Barry and everyone else who were involved in this milestone. I call it a milestone because Puppy is proving that a bunch of good people can produce a really quality, usefull product that can make almost any computer a joy to use. Puppy has become the "Swiss Army Knife" of computing.
When the printing problems are corrected on the next version, then the job of refinement begins. Linux will probably never replace Windows, but Puppy just might! :)

Earl hit it right on the mark! Thank you to everyone who played a part in advancing the development of Puppy. I can't wait to get it home (downloading all three versions too)!

My tiny Linux distro, called "Puppy" is available for
download, v0.1:

http://www.goosee.com/puppy

This version is experimental, not for newbies.

Puppy has a reasonable suite of X apps and runs entirely
in a 48M ramdisk, which means that everything happens in
the blink of an eye.

Experimenters wanted, to get Puppy to boot off different
media. First take on it is I have Puppy booting off a
USB flash card.
Possibilies are CDROM, Zip, LS120/240, hard drive...

Regards,
Barry Kauler
And now there is a 39 meg version and then some . . .

I got the same two desktop errors Lobster mentioned from the Barebones boot.

The Puppy 1.0.3 CD-R boot went very well on both my laptop and desktop. So far, I've only used this CD to boot with and to install my hard drive (upgrade) to 1.0.3. Very simple!

This, and my other postings tonight, are being done from my 1.0.3-Mozilla HD installed Puppy.

Excellent work Barry!!!

I got the two desktop errors as well, but I thought that they were there since Abiword and Mozilla weren't installed. I just downloaded Firefox and redirected the first one to it, and then downloaded Abiword and pointed the second one at it. Works well now.
