Macpup Foxy 2.0

#1 Post by runtt21 »

This is the new thread for Macpup Foxy 2.0

Foxy 2.0 is based on puppy 4.1.2 (2.6.25.16)

Thank you very much to Barry for puppylinux. And thank you TTUUXXx for VLC w ith the extra Skins!!!And to Prit1 for the help making this puplet and hosting it!!!

Extra special thanks to CatDude for the custom Macpup Foxy icewm theme "Megan-Fox" , wbar skins , and the new grub boot screen.

Foxy still has everything that makes Macpup so cool plus a bunch of extra stuff like, Gimp, Xvidcap,,Firefox 3 ,Java, Flash , Audacity,Pawdio Converter,VCL ( by ttuuxxx!!!) Gxine .The "black-fate" gtk2 theme and startup/shutdown tunes.

After you run Foxy off a live CD a few times you might want to install it to you hard drive or usb flash drive, ect.... That's cool !!!! But First read through the manual for puppy 4 to make sure you understand what to do .Then run Foxy in ram and change the gtk theme from Black-fate to default or another theme . You can change it in menu-desktop-Chtheme GTK theme chooser. After that the installer and the grub installer will work fine. After the reboot the installed version of Foxy will be back to black-fate and everything will be fine.

The Macpup team , Prit1 and myself, would like to thank everyone for running Foxy 2.0 or any of the official Macpups !!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!

Please, does Macpup have aMule?

What other extra packages it has? Possibly only those listed above?

Thank you!

@renlac , The only extra stuff is whats listed. If puppy 4.1.2 doesn't have amule then foxy2 doesn't either.

@axelburic , you can select your country during set up that should give you your language but I didn't add anything for that.

CatDude did an outstanding job on the icewm theme .It is just what I ask for. He even tweaked the Black-fate gtk2 theme to make it blend in with "megan-fox" better. And He made the boot screen.

I am running this from an old pentium 2 laptop - very good looking with that wbar :)

What is the difference between ram and the normal boot?
I have 196MB of ram on tha laptop - salvaged from another laptop (another story)
I take it that the normal boot will call from CD if running from that but the ram tries to load totally into ram?
Anyway they both seem to work OK - boot screen is a great option and glad to see it being used :)

I also like the grey aero button icons on the wbar
I believe the wbar is one of the best iniatives on the Mac and
the early Linux versions were unstable.
As often happens with Open source - it is fixed and becomes stable.
And we all get the benefit..

Thanks for your effort - now I am gonna try the new knoppix 6 on the laptop - I hope it talks to me as promised (as a geek it as much human contact as I can expect :)

"What is the difference between ram and the normal boot? "

When you pick the normal boot if you have a pupsave or several pupsaves it will load it or give you a chance to pick one. If you pick "ram" it just loads the os into ram.

Thank you for giving Foxy a spin !!!!

did frugal install

#14 Post by neur1 »

heya runtt21,
i did a frugal install to a 2GB sans disk usb and everything seems to be working, with no problems to report during install. i also did an install in a vbox (full) and needed to use a different working puppy (i used g-pup 1.2) to install the grub and it works just fine. hope you get your grub loader fixed soon but for now the two installs are working fine.
thanks.
the black and blue is awesome, it's become my new favorite pup-let.

OK The grub installer and the universal installer is working , BUT before you run it you need to change the gtk theme from black-fate to default or one of the other themes , then the installer will work fine. You can make the change at menu-desktop-Chtheme GTK theme chooser . After reboot the installed version will have black-fate back and everything should be fine.I didnt have any problems with the other apps with that theme. The installer was the one thing I didnt test run Sorry!!!

@axelburic you will need to look up audacity on the web to see how to set that up I know 2 card will be the issue , I just dont know how to do that. I tested the flash plugin at youtube and it worked fine. But I have heard that watching youtube in full screen will cause problems with FF3 in puppylinux. I tested the java plugin at the kgs go server and goproblems.com .You might see if seamonkey works better with that site.

So far the grub installer has been the only issue and we know how to get around it.

Thank all of you for using Macpup foxy and supporting the whole Macpup project .Prit1 and I both appreciate it very much!!!

Penpen each one of the links on the macpup.org site for Foxy is a different server ,Try a different one .Remember Foxy is big 206 MB. CatDude said it took him almost 2 hrs. If you still have problems , leave a message on the site for Prit1. He runs it.

Thanks for this puppy, it looks pretty much like a mac.
I was able to do a full install and I have even open office working.

I would need a little help changing the icons in the dock, because I don't even know where to start.

Thanks!
