NetBoot Capable Puppy 4.1.2

#1 Post by Wolf Pup »

This is standard Puppy 4.1.2 but without the fat that is ment to be booted over the network, thanks to pizzasgood for the SM crash fix, multiple monitor fix, and petget path fix.

Note: For the lock icon to work install, xlockmore-5.20.1patched.pet
For wallpaper setter to work install, gpicview-0.1.9.pet

Thanks for working on this, wolf pup. Downloading now...

Perhaps you can add notes about what you did in unleashed to build this. This could be a related discussion: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=264023#264023

Another challenge would be how to "remaster" a netbooting Puppy.

Remastering Netboot

#3 Post by RamWreck »

Another challenge would be how to "remaster" a netbooting Puppy.
So I ran across this thread and thought I would give the remastering a try.

What I did was boot the regular 4.1.2 iso on the target hardware, configure it the way I wanted to, and then saved the "customizations" in a .2fs file.

I was then able to merge that .2fs file with .sfs file contained in the initrd.gz and create a customized netbootable version.

I will try to recreate and document the process at work tomorrow.

looking good

Thanks, RamW, that's looking good.

For another test, I will try simply inserting a new pup_412.sfs (from a non-net-booting puplet) in the humongous initrd.gz.

Thank you, pity the info is all over the place, with Wiki not being as straight forward as it could be...
