LightZone running on Puppy

#1 Post by fred12345 »

Hi,

I am thinking of moving to Puppy as my main O/S (replacement for Ubuntu)

Has anyone got LightZone running on Puppy? Its a Java application made by LightCraft

Just install the latest java, or my release of it as a pet package and basically click on lightzone, it should run no problems.

Also do be aware of fotoxx which is under graphics in Puppy 4.12
Not bad for a lot of simple stuff . . .

Why are you changing from Ubuntu. Is it because you have a Puppy fetish? [my secret is out] :)

I would be surprised if fotoxx really could compete with the likes of Photshop, Lighzone and the Bibbles out there.

Ubuntu is full of a lot of stuff that simply I do not use, drivers that do little for me. Puppy loads in about 15 seconds on my PC, whereas Ubuntu is about 4 mins. Speed really.

Cheers for the link.

I changed too my old ubuntu with puppy, cause now I have much stability and fast execution, never been before with other distributions.
Ubuntu is very user friendly for people new to linux, but too much fat and slow.
With puppy never got crash after many hours with my computer working in compilation, P2P, video encoding and chat, all together.
I guess puppy will be my primary distribution for ever. It have strong flexibility and is full customizable, and eye candy too.

sorry for the off-topic :)

UPDATE

#7 Post by fred12345 »

I installed Lightzone on Puppy and it works flawlessly out of the box.
LZ comes with its own JRE.

By the way,

I tried to get Raw Therapee to work but it would not run. I cannot find out where it dumps the error messages. Has anyone got any ideas?

just try running it from command line, around 7 out of 10 times it will display the error.
also it says you need this file at the website

I downloaded and attempted to install that .pet, but just like the file xorg_xorg_dri-7.3-1.pet, it started the Pet installer and asked if the package was to be installed, and then did nothing after I clicked on OK.

I think that these packages don't like my PC. Is there a log file for the PET installer so that I can look at the errors?

Going to http://linux.die.net/man/petget gives me a 404. (got this link for the inexistent man page).
