Ecopup 0.7.3

#22 Post by ecomoney »

Heres a screenshot from Ecopup 0.7.3.1 . We use icewm and the WinXP-Blue theme over a tried and tested puppy linux 2.15ce base. It was designed for use in an internet cafe where the users expected a standard look and feel. It certainly goes a long way in convincing new people to use puppy. Weve also customised Firefox to emulate Internet Explorer 7.

The previous version was based on a "Vista" look, but Vista proved that unpopular that weve reverted to an XP look to win over windows users. They seem relieved to see it again. Weve found that before very long, they figure how to change the icewm theme (something they see as a great additional feature over windows) and dont stick with "teletubby" theme very long.

Just wondering if you customised Firefox to look like Explorer then why the 2 desktop icons,? Does the "E" open Fire and Does the Firefox icon open Firefox? 2 icons opening the same program?
ttuuxxx

Ps you only have 1 quick launch icon on your taskbar, maybe put a calculator, and the explorer icon also  my wife who only uses xp, loves the shortcut to the calculator on the taskbar and also explorer.
Plus 4 destops? most new users would have problems using 1,lol just kidding but what if they weren't paying attention and accidentally click say destop #3 and they lost everything and didn't know what they did? I would remove all but the main desktop. Less late night phone calls that way :)
ttuuxxx

also do you included the silver xp icewm theme also?

There is a shortcut menu already with firefox on it, thought I havnt figured out how to add the vertical ">>" menu to it yes. The explorer icon and the firefox icon actually both open firefox! It was put there as well as the firefox icon for people that hadnt even heard of that.

The four desktops were confusing as you suggest, and the last release at the cybercafe didint actually have them. However, since weve started doing more domestic or small business work, they are so useful weve actually included them I do get to give half an hour of tuition within the standard one hour we charge for our callout....thats after installing ecopup for them!

Any ideas on how to add the toolbar i.e. icon and the verticle stripes?

P.S.

TELETUBBY XP

#28 Post by ecomoney »

Hi no, I just linked that wallpaper from www.1990toys.com, which i found by doing a google image search for "teletubbies XP". Im sure there must be a higher resolution version around somewhere.

This one is going in the next ecopup release for sure.

It still needs more tweaking. The ROX dir icons, window theme, cursors and tooltip colors are next on the list.
I'll post another screenshot soon :D

panzerpuppy,
Please, before you consider posting another screenshot, resize the 2048x1536 'tubby' one (no pun intended!) you have already placed on the forum to a reasonable size - the accepted x600 pixels. For people using small screens and low resolutions, the overall size is enormous.
Thanks.

That was done on purpose, just to show you how good the Tubbies look when stretched to 3.14 Megapixels :D

The next one will be much smaller.

Wow, that'd be nice. Also, rox's gotta go. A 2 bar filer manager would be it, that supports regular Control+c control v, and that when you look for, for example example.jpg you can type "ex" and the file will appear selected.

:o

These are some special program launchers that Ive taken from ecopup that I saw by Guestoo some time ago. They allow double or single clicking to launch, but if the user double clicks they will still only get one instance of the application. It also shows a (very poor) splash screen for the application. They also show a tooltip when hovered over.

Installing the .pet puts them in /root/my-roxapps. Go in there and right click any of the icons and select "look inside", and this will reveal the goodies within. It should be obvious what everything does.

ecopup-launchers.pet

Ive found them very handy for people who are xp-trained in our cybercafe and for our commercial customers in the area.

P.S.

I dont suppose you guys have seen the new JWM 2.0 beta? It has transparency on the toolbars for that vista in under 100mb look
