Toshiba Satellite with Realtek Soundcard: OSS sound works

What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

Toshiba Satellite with Realtek Soundcard: OSS sound works

#1 Post by Rhino »

HUGE Thanks to KlhRevolutionist for his guidance in getting my sound working.

1.) I installed usr_devx to /mnt/home and rebooted. I also installed every library for Puppy I could find from pupget.
2.) I downloaded the OSS package for the 2.4 Linux kernel.
3.) I opened Rox and typed the following: ./oss-install
4.) I followed the instructions and after a couple of clicks, it installed the correct driver.

This did not work without usr_devx installed. Maybe the reboot helped. Either way...I finally have sound on my laptop and all is good in the world!!!

That's great Rhino. Could you perhaps tell us the brand and model of notebook, maybe the chipset or any other details that might be useful? Thanks. :)

I have a Toshiba Satellite P35-S611 with a Realtek ALC650 Soundcard. OSS works with the snd-atiixp driver.
