XFE File manager 1.9.2 puppy 4.0+ foxlibs

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

Hi here's a interesting file manager, It comes with different themes, like kde, gnome, tango.windows etc, plus you can change the background colours, Rox would have a few lessons to learn from this file manager.
Also I included a few puppies default icons, to make you feel more at home :)
Another nice thing about the layout of this file manager is that you can click up top and select from different types of views, like just one window like rox, or 2 windows like windows, or 3 windows
Anyways you need foxlibs to run this file manager which you can get below.
enjoy
ttuuxxx

Ps I removed 2 pop-ups (your running as root & are you sure you want to close) These were a pain and included the altered source, to keep with gpl etc :)

I was just looking at the XFE file manager today and thinking why isn't it used in Puppy?

I would say probably due to the size, rox is 383kb plus it has a window environment, like the desktop, If XFE was to replace rox, we would need a new desktop icon pinboard system, I've seen them before for. Also XFE is around 2MB with themes, it could be reduced to about 1.5 MB with the removal of some themes. But still I think its just to big. Makes a nice addon :)
I just drag the bin file to the desktop and set a icon and use it.

I has just installed xfe-1.19.2-i386.pet and noticed that xfe.desktop was located in a '/usr/share/appliactions' folder instead of /usr/share/applications. The XFE menu item didn't appear until I copied the file to the regular /usr/share/applications folder.
Otherwise a nice and powerful file manager.
Thank you ttuuxxx.

Thanks for this. Much better than Rox.
I noticed that some of the file associations were pointing to programs I don't have, like Firefox for opening html files. I change them as I find them.

I did have a problem yesterday, though. I tried to delete a .jpg file from my Windows partition and Xfe hung on me for some reason. Had to resort to control+alt+backspace to get control back.

Bonjour à tous,
Is it possible to remove all those advertisings when opening and closing XFE?
Cordialement ;)

Hi I'm not running 4 series, but are you talking about "running as root" messages and "are you sure you want to close?" messages. Hmmm didn't I remove those? are you sure your running this version? Because I'm sure I removed those from the sources before compiling

esmourguit I just checked this version on 2.14X and there are no advertisements/popups reminders about root what so ever. You must be using another version.

make sure you delete /root/.xfe first before installing it

I really, really like Xfe. :D 8)

Run it on all kinds of Puppies.
e.g. BoxPup-413, Twinkle-421, Muppy-008.4c, Puppy-4.31.1, and more.

Not one has ever had any kind of problem.
Certainly no advertisements/popups.

Bonjour à tous,

Excuse me ttuuxxx. You're right. It's not your pet package.
In your, there is no warning message. However, the localisation is not supported.

Cordialement ;)

you should be able to grab it from another package, In the past I even went to ubuntu repo for locales, its quick and easy :) some programs like this one took about 1hr+ to figure out where and how to remove the messages in sources, ubuntu repo would take seconds to grab the locales :)

Bonjour à tous,

@ ttuuxxx,
I've got the locale file for french, but in fact the executable xfe does not support the french locale file.
But don't worry, I solved the problem in the preferences, there is the choice to remove these warnings.
Thank you very much for your help.

Cordialement ;)

how about this - no libFOX required (compiled statically with a lot of hacks) and with NLS & upx'd binary (I had to allow the linker to use -z muldefs for the binary to build statically which makes it larger but also highly compressible)

... need to edit /root/.config/xfe/xferc to have it automatically open with the correct programs (default* abiword, gnumeric etc... vs. openoffice progs) ... if someone does this please post the gzipped /root/.config/xfe/xferc and I will repackage it

... did not remove the running as root popups etc... since they can be turned off in preferences

Techno this is great work just what I wanted!!

Is it just cuz I'm stuck on a 800x600 laptop or is there no [X] button for closing or a [_] button to minimize? No big deal but I guess I'm spoiled lol

Hold your "Alt" key down, left click on your mouse and drag it down, for some reason when it opens, it opens too high, and you have to drag it down.

ttuuxxx

Also Techno you forgot to remove the "running as root" splash :)

you might want to try the latest version of 2.14X, it has rox and Thunar :)
