cupsd using almost 100% cpu in htop

#361 Post by Béèm »

If htop is reliable, cupsd is using almost 100% cpu.
Is this healthy?
Is there work on the way to get this down to a normal level?

Yes Béèm, it is a bug in process of being fixed if not already.

Beem how about trying a little experiment ?
run top, open Pprocess on the right hand menu it will say with arrows
high, normal, low, click on cupsd and select Low and keep looking at htop and see if your CPU resources lowers, and please report back, if that works, it would be possible to fix it :)
I don't have that issue so I can't test it.
Thanks

Could it be applied for the final?
IIRC the "fix" has already been applied i.e. compile with --enable-debug option (I think). I just tested and was able to repeat the problem but only while editing a post in the forum. Any other time and I can hit the INS key without fear of any disappearing Seamonkey bug! I wonder if the issue is a combination of Seamonkey and a bug in the forum software? :?

Thanks for the tip.
But neither of the buttons high|normal|low has any effect.
It seems to be a bug and solution in progress.

Ok, I'll have another look at it. I thought the pet was for touchpad issues only? I didn't realise it also resolved the INS key bug, which was supposed to require a recompile with --enable-debug option. I'll give it a try though. Glad your problem is solved. 8)

Hey whodo that fix is gtk, It also comes with a bunch of devs that can be removed, I'm not sure if the .so,exec files are stripped,Theres a demo that can be removed, hmmm here use this one for your test, I removed most of the extras :) also If I was you just rip apart the pet, take the libs, and try each one out, and test each one, Then once it stops crashing, update only the 1 lib thats actually fixing it, or it might add a lot to the iso. 2MB compressed 4MB extracted.

Bonjour,
Just a wild idea.
Now we have PCP (Puppy Control Panel), we could reduce the Setup menu by deleting the entries corresponding to different assistants. What do you think about?
Cordialement ;)

Control Panels are great for some users who like that all in one thing, I personally like to click on what I want, if I was to use the control panel, I would have to click that, then find the application, then click on that, The way it is now, I click menu, I know where everything is so like 2 click and I'm there.
You could always just delete the .desktop files that you don't want to appear in the menu if your making your own French version ? would harm anything.

Like we need a editor to delete a file, lol thats so lazy. Its different if it could make .desktops

as for that crazy shutdown dialogue, well that gives us a more advanced desktop feel. gets rid of the older jwm/icewm look and feel. We do have the best looking small window managers on planet in this release for 100mb and under distros.

You could try again one more time, really it worked for me!
As I said, it's saved on second boot.

Cheers
Thanks Trio. I tried again and again, every way I could think of, still no joy. No matter what I do module bcm43xxx gets loaded, and the configuration thinks I have two eth interfaces, and no wlan.
I am going to give this up until the final release, but given that so far I cant print with the correct driver and cant save my wireless configuration, 4.2 RC4 is badly broken compared to 4.1.1
Spup Frugal HD and USB

Has Kirk solved the problem with bcm43xx and wl here? http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 025#288025
removed module ssb from the initrd.gz, no idea why it was there and it causes problems with bcm43xx and wl.
Is it too late for 4.2?

Not if kirk gets back to me before Saturday and tells where exactly he found that module so I can do likewise. 8)

The RAM/CPU widget constantly displays a maxed out CPU (this cannot possibly be, as it is an AMD 6000+ Dual Core, and I'm running nothing but the desktop - also - the system is in no way sluggish, but VERY responsive...).

See Screenshot below.

OK, Finally got wifi going.
Here is what I had to do:
menu>system>Bootmanager configure boot up>Give Preference to One Module Over Another> remove all references to Broadcom wifi drivers. Delete line 'ssb:wl'
Replace it with 'bcm43:ssb'
Spup Frugal HD and USB
Root forever!
