pupeee 4.2
Big Thank you.
Thank you, Volsung.
It is a problem for all of us when someone makes a new puppy but nowhere to upload and share.
We got to find a solution for this. Maybe Woof approach or Choice Pup approach should be considered. (No apps jusrt core or build system only.)
So the download bandwidth limit shouldn't be reached.
Today, I went to see and compare Acer one and EEEPC 1000H+
There is a price difference of 1000 yuan. (2800 for 9" Acer One 3800 for EEEPC1000+)
I could buy one of them in Korea for a lot less. It wasn't the price, the elegance was the issue. And then there was areal nice looking Korean netbook caught my eyes.(I couldn't take my eyes off). But the battery hour is too short for me. I looked around other netbooks all day but couldn't make a decision.
The Korean beauty has about 2hours and EEE PC 1000 has 6hours. Besides that, both have the exact spec.
Longer battery hour is absolute necessity. However, if I buy EEEPC, then I have to pay 400 more yuan because it comes with Windows.
I don't like to pay any money to the world's richest man. I don't need windows anyway. I got Puppy. I do not want to pay what I don't need.
Anyway, I will try Pupeee when I go there again.(USB+Unetbootin, Maybe)
Thanks again.

Did not work for me
Thanks for these files.
I could not get them to work, I am sure it is my fault. I burnt the iso file you posted, used a desktop to install to usb key, and used the key on my eeepc 901, but I have not noticed any improvement over the normal Puppy 4.2 install. No sound, no monitor hot swapping, no suspend.
Thanks again.

you still need to run the puppy sound config the drivers patched but not loaded by default. not all eeepc have hda cards. it will see your intel-hda and crash after playing the test file no problem once you reboot your sound will work. so your going to have to install it or save the session for sound fixes.
suspend and swapping where not tested or even tried on this version. why they are not listed as fixes. suspending on puppy would be buggy at best rember it loads into ram its self.
for the 1000he owner they use a newer wifi chipset. if you look in the forum link i have with the pets i used someone has posted a driver for that model eeepc. surprising madwifi didn't pick it up thow. must be really new.

I have found that acpitool (for which there is a pet) works very well for suspend to RAM on my 701. I have not had any problems with it. Just sett up a shortcut to to make something like super+F1 runs acpitool -s and you have suspend. I suppose if you wanted to you could have that run on lid close too, but I prefer it not to do that.

I too have had problems with WiFi not resuming, but I find that to be a problem with suspend to RAM in general. I have had that with windows and linux on different hardware. I have never had any problems with programs though.
Let me know how the test turns out.
As to the hotkey, I used the WM to set those up. In JWM, IceWM, and Xfce you can set up hotkeys, but I do not think that you can use the Fn key. That is why I said super.

It keeps failing to return normally. Most times, something's missing: wifi, wine, no shutdown.
I remember now that Tempestuous had warned of this, precisely b/c suspending to RAM is pretty tricky.
On the other hand, the eee readout of acpitool is interesting and thorough, so I'll keep it installed.

wifi does not get IP
I was sooo excited to see pupeee 4.2 but alas wifi seems to only partialy work.
I have a eeePC 900 that came with XP installed. It all works but snail pace slow.
Pupeee is so much faster and now it can see the network but it won't pull an IP. I have M$ machines and a MacBook that work on my wireless just fine. I use WPA - Personal (WPA2?).
I put in the key and it just doesn't get an IP. Also it doesn't see my network in the "Puppy Network Wizard" but it does in pwireless.
I think this may be key. Maybe PNW can't deal with the WPA?

wifi on Pupeee
I tried it several times. Always the same result. It does not see my wireless network. It sees a couple of my neighbors networks though.
I have even tried moving to different rooms in the house. Same result.
Same machine running XP has no trouble connecting, just SLOW.

wifi on Pupeee
Yeah, not gonna change my network security to something less secure. Just won't use Pupeee, unfortunately.

Obviously I too am not going to use a less secure encryption.
Great to see 4.2 working if not connecting on the Eeeepc
I use wpa2 for wireless and eeetiger worked with wpa2 - as yet Pupeee 4.2 does not. Not sure if Dinky is available to advise . . .

Hi all
pupeee works fine on my 701. One problem I found was that for some reason slimpacks_420.txt wasn't included which made remastering a bit tricky
If anyone wants it, I have remastered pupeee with all the bug fixes (and the slimpacks file). I have made one or two mods though. I prefer gimp to mtpaint, as well as mplayer instead of xine.
If anyone wants to remaster on the eee, you can by making a slight mod to remax, and mounting the current iso as loop.
ie. put the iso somewhere, and mount pupeee.iso /mnt/dvd -o loop
then copy /usr/sbin/remax to /tmp, and edit it. Searh for sr* and change to loop*. Run /tmp/remax and there you go! To remaster pupeee, get slimpacks_420.txt from the standard iso, and download 0dpkg_420 (the first entry in the install list). Make sure you tick "include file list on CD" so slimpacks is also included.
Cheers,
Vader
