All I can say is Yuck.
I saw a product review of the product in question - and it actually needed Windows to work - it was basically a jumped-up hard disk with a few utilities. No linux at all.
Anyway.. it sounds like the company is trying to develop applications for its product - because it doesnt do much else. Its not in the spirit of Linux - they are just trying to sell more product.
1. Start application-writing contest
2. Use winning app in your product
3. Profit
4. Winner gets $50K, you make extra $5 million.
