[CLOSED] Xsane cannot find HP5280 scanner

This is for bugs in a version of Puppy 4.x that is still under development. If you have bugs for a released version of Puppy, please post them in the forum's main Bugs section, not here. Bugs are when a program does not function as intended. Usability issues are not bugs.

[CLOSED] Xsane cannot find HP5280 scanner

#1 Post by Jim1911 »

Clean frugal installation on this System: Dell Dimension 8250, Pent 4 at 2.40GHz, 1.5GB ram, 128 MB ATI Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card with TV-out and DVI, Soundblaster Live with 5.1 audio, Intel Pro 100M Integrated PCI NIC Card, HP Photosmart 5280 All-in-One, Printer-Scanner-Copier

1. Setup printer with Cups which selected an operational driver which printed a test sheet without any problem.

2. Executed xsane which gave an option for a usb scanner, however the search resulted in "No devices available"

Installed hpijs-2.8.2_static-1-patched421.pet and repeated above steps with same results.

The HPIJS package only gets you printer support. For scanning, you need HPLIP. Try this:

1. Go here and install Patriot's hplipfw-p42-3.9.2-i486.

2. Then go here and install the cupsddk-1.2.3-i486.pet.
