Thanks for the links and info guys. Very Happy I'm sure it will come handy down the road. Wink I've been enjoying the great weather here and so I still haven't gotten around to PowerPup yet. Razz But I plan to soon. Maybe on a rainy day or something. (It rains quite often here.)

(Hey Aitch, I'm a Garfield fan too! Very Happy)

Sub_title: Looking forward to testing it

Hello PowerPup,

I'll be using a separate hard drive for installing from your Live CD/DVD, since my Mac OSX hard drive is only 20 GIG in size. I got lucky and bought my G4 PowerPC tower with an OS on it or RAM for $15.00. I tested RAM and had the best luck with sticks that were both PC100 and PC133. I found the Ubuntu 6.0 Live CD was the only one to boot automatically. I had to research how to use the Mac, but without Flash or Gnash, I got discouraged and went back to the many Intel PCs I have around here.

If you get busy with the Puppy Kennel, I'll be sure to pull my Mac out of the closet. You're an answer to a prayer I had when I first bought my Mac.

Good luck compiling, etc.,
Joan in Reno

Laughing Nice work on the pic cobelloy! Maybe I'll find a place for it on the site. Smile

Thanks for the encouragement ChiJoan, yeah, I still need to learn how to make static builds. Razz Right now it's a matter of figuring out how to and trying to build the filesystem structure.

Update: I've redesigned the PowerPup website. Very Happy Take a look at http://powerpup.yi.org/

Especially if it's for their PS3. Laughing Thanks for the info Aitch. Very Happy Maybe I'll be able to use it. I think I've been almost purposely avoiding the huge task before me because. Well, it a huge task. Razz I guess I feel somewhat unprepared and there isn't going to be a simpler way to make the filesystem. Think what I'll do is just get the CLI working and build from the ground up. Or something like that, I just need to get in there and do some research and decide what I'll try first. Wink

Oh yeah, I STILL need to find out how to make static builds. If anyone know how to do this on a PC I would greatly appreciate a link to a guide or if they typed one up real quick for me. I can take that info and use it on my Linux Mac. Very Happy

You need to talk to Technosaurus, maybe you could even persuade him to come onboard with Powerpup

I cant wait for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a G3 Lomabrd wasting space right now, and I have been waiting with baited breath for this. Imagine how great the world will be when Puppy is on a Mac.

I am not a windows, or a mac... I am a puppy.

I'm glad to hear that many are excited about my project. (I know I am.) Very Happy

Anyway, I wanted to give a little update so people aren't wondering if the FBI got me for attempting to make Puppy available for PPC macs. Razz Currently I am at a pause with my project for two reasons.

I've kinda reached the end of my linux guru skills rope. I'm going to need to learn more about the fundamentals of linux and how Puppy's clockwork ticks.

Getting into summer now so I'll be spending a lot more time outside and be looking for a summer job.

So with that my PowerPup project will be a rest for a while. Until I can build the root system and such, I'll tinker with it once in a while. I still plan to try to get a more usable version (working CLI) out soon. Just don't know when that would be. Razz

Puppy on!!!

PowerPup.

@powerpup - if you have questions, just ask. I learned quite a bit from building LFS, reading through the T2 and now woof build scripts and recently from doing file by file comparisons of most of the small distros' base packages. FYI...After that comparison it really made me appreciate the gobolinux package methodology.

Thanks Technosaurus. Very Happy I do need to learn how to make static builds with uclibc and/or dietlibc. I had thought of doing file-by-file comparison to build the PPC sqaushfs. (using LFS as a guideline is a good idea too, just need to take the time to read it and learn it.) But to do that I need to find sources for all the programs in there, (eg: X, Pup programs, etc.) And I'm not sure where to find them, (considering Puppy uses a mixed/custom package of X) and make static builds. Razz So information on these things would greatly help. Smile

Thanks.

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/t2-dingo/t2-dingo.tar
all sources from the original 4.0 T2 build = 1.0GB

But I wouldn't overlook the tinycorelinux sources...
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/release/src/
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/2.x/release/src/

you might try the ppc snapshot of t2
http://dl.t2-project.org/binary/unstable/8.0-trunk/t2-minimal-xorg-ppc64-r31274.iso
and modify Barry's target for woof (attached)
