Thanks very much for Deep Thought V1, it is very nice and I love all the wifi utilities. My wifi works great.
Just a few questions regarding V2
1. will it update my save file or do I have to do a "from scratch" install.
2. are all of the wifi utilities in V1 included in V2?
And just my own vote, I don't mind a extra 3 or 4 meg added to the V2 derivative. I have Deep Thought v1 installed on a one gig pendrive with Openoffice 3 added in and I still have 800meg left free on the drive. I just don't like saving space if it means giving up some proven software. Especially since I have a 4gig and a 8gig pendrive laying around empty.
Fact is I've never seen a Puppy that I considered too big.
thank for your efforts, I will install v2 on one of my other drives.

Hi, I think I can help w/ some of your questions:
1. To update my puppy usb install, I just extract the files initrd.gz,
vmlinux, and pup_420.sfs over the old copies. Your save file will not be effected.
2. The same wi-fi utils are there
A question for ttuuxxx:
I have been using puppy for awhile, and most recently these ttuuxxx builds. Are you still planning on updating this build? I like the no bling and the fixes. It serves as a great base for my remasters. I am hoping to get remax working to remove more stuff as well. Thanks for all of the stuff you put out for puppy.

Yes i plan on updating it once there are enough updates to warrant a newer release, right now it has almost all of them, so I'll wait for a bit. Since its good and stable now, Plus itgives me time to work on puppy 5.0

I am attracted to Deeper Thought v2 because it drops the bling, so if there is a thread or tutorial for removing bling from Deep Thought standard I would like to see it. Running Deeper Thought v2 from liveCD I was curious about Clipboard near the system tray. I am not sure what Clipboard does, but I clicked it and it expanded to take up half the panel while moving the speaker icon and connection icon to the center of panel. So there is a huge white bar (Clipboard) occupying the entire right side of panel which seems to be inoperable--cant drag it, cant right-click it--all because i clicked on Clipboard. I was wondering why this program was put here by default, how to use it, and how to remove it.

you left click on the clipboard, I think you clicked on one the settings, I'm running puppy 5 alpha right now so I don't have it on my pc.
But how you use it is simple just copy and paste The default clipboard in puppy is terrible for console, very frustrating, So I compiled Parcellite and installed it by default. If you highlite something and copy it, then press the mouse scroll button and it will paste into a console/terminal. as long as the copied text is highlighted. so usually keep the highlited text window away from the terminal.
To remove the bling was a very long process. Its really embedded into 4.2. Some of the scripts had to reverted back to earlier versions etc.
I'll keep updating this version with each official 4.2 series update.
I don't think puppy 5 will have the the added bling.

I REALLY like this Puppy. No, REALLY. Kind of Old School, but modern at the same time. I like how quickly patches were released too. Thanks Ttuuuxxx. Brilliant.

Oh MAN! I cant believe you left out the no BCM patch in V2. My broadcom wifi works great in V1, but is stuffed in V2
Also, you know what I hate? That pale grey background for Blinky that dont match the tray. Picky or what! This is the best Pup around and here you got me moaning about Blinky.
BTW, the hpjis-dynamic pet works just fine with this Puppy if hpjis drivers are needed.
Anyone using this Puppy in the UK, set the time zone to Europe/London, NOT GMT as GMT dont work (on any 4.x Puppy)

Hello:
I have a T22 ibm laptop and can't seem get the sound working alsaconfig
finds the card or chip as a cs46xx or something of that sort, but no sound. I am running sidux also and compair modprobe.conf files to find that they were almost exactly the same except the sid sound works.
Also, how can I put back clock and calander from the old bling version?
Any help would be appreciated.

Vito

Just respecced the colour in config file, no problem. BTW, some wierd stuff is happening with 4.2-v2. Something is different with the way it mounts partitions. I like to have my distro on one partition, and my data, including .mozilla on another, symlinked. So. Running 4.2 v2 from a USB, with data on sda3, the boot process deletes my .mozilla symlink, and re-installs .mozilla to root. Put 4.2-v2 on sda1, and this does not happen. Go figure

Sorry about my request for the clock and calendar. I hadn't read your earlier post on the pwidgets business.
The scapping and flapping between members of the forum, users and developers has become a little like the girls in the office.
I don't know all that went on but I have watched your posts and puppy derivatives for a while now and I know that you are basically a good soul who is not easily provoked,l so I am sorry that someone is out there pushing your buttons.
Anywho, yours and whodos good work stands sholder to sholder with the best that puppy has had to offer, following the example of its founder .
Mny Thx Again Guys,
Vito

Sorry Ttuuxxx. Total travesty. Had to install conky as missed the email notification and download speed monitor too much
Interestingly, conky puts a tasklist window entry in the taskbar with this distro. I had to set the own_window_type switch to override to get rid of it, like this:
| Code: | | own_window_type override |
Other than that, its just fine.
You gonna do a Seamonkey 2 .pet when it finally gets released?

I just compiled 1.1.16 today for the series 2 update I'm doing, it running nice But probably wouldn't work on any other puppy due to its using the latest, glib, gtk, and also gio libs, funny one of the oldest versions of puppy is now the latest version. lol kind of cool
P.s when Seamonkey 2 goes final yes I'll compile it up and shoot it in
Just wondering if I would keep 4.2's theme or use the newer 2 series theme, hmmmmmm.

My vote would go to the original series two theme, provided they dont change it of course. IMHO Mozilla finally got it right this time
