When taking pics indoors for gkam they come out black (no flash) and I have to edit them in GIMP

You can resize your black images in ROX using the magnyfying glass
and then dragging a black image will reveal a negative (but lightened) image underneath to give you an idea of what you are working with

This is useful and it might be worth further exploration . . .

Those pictures should be correctly exposed if the camera is working correctly. It shouldn't matter that they are indoors without a flash. Perhaps there is something wrong with the camera's automatic exposure control or the manual exposure controls (shutter speed, aperture, effective ASA) are set wrong.

I depends a lot on the camera whether it is actually capable of getting a proper exposure under these conditions. Even if it did, the picture may not be sharp because of the longer exposure time needed.

Most consumer grade cameras, whether they are digital or film based, have a hard time under these circumstances. They just don't have a lense with a wide enough diaphragm to let in the amount of light required. This is WHY we have builtin flashes on all of these cameras.

Phones now have better cameras

I just found out that highlighting all the files show all of them in negative . . . (viewable)

Hi deshlab,

Using XnView open any image... Then click image > adjust for all the options. Does a nice job on color too.
