Ppup 415 alpha
OK
Rather than a pristine reboot (puppy pfix=ram during boot)
I just upgraded from 414 and my OpenOffice sfs is there
Wine is there and xaraLx SFS is now working and on the menu (did not work in 414)
So my preferred SFS are being recognized
- ye hah!
- actually I never use Wine - so will change to the devx
(rename it with a 415.sfs if it does not come up in the boot manager)
The citrus JWM seems to have been lost - easy enough to add again - but where did it go?
Incidentally Puppy 4.2.1 could install more than 3 SFS (it said 3 in the dialog - but could use more - apparently 19 - see later post)
Does anyone have a link - know how much the script for more than 3 sfs would add in size - should be a few k? Is it risky with low ram computers?
Before I forget - I tried the universe installer and booted into a USB keydrive on the Eeepc with 414
Worked OK but no wifi driver
Was this available in Puppy 5
or have I been eating too many pickled herrings?

I'm downloading the 415 woof packages, It might take a few days or so before I have everything up and running:)
Hey Eric anyway I can get Zigberts latest Pproducts, he had mentioned that the server was out for the next few days, If not I could wait, no problem. Barry stated on his thread that he did update Pmusic, Pburn, Pfilesearch, Pfind, Pbackup in 415 so if there's any other just let me know.

Just downloaded 415. Nice.
I've been thinking about making a puplet that uses the latest Opera Unite version as the default browser. For those who are unfamiliar with this, this browser includes a ground-breaking built-in file and web-server module - plus other stuff as well. This 415 version would make an ideal base for this. I'm still not quite familiar enough with the Woof build system to be able to reliably replace the default Seamonkey browser with Opera Unite though.
As with other 4 series Puppies, there is no suitable driver for my ATI Radeon 3400 card. I usually have to install MU's dotpet in order to get round this. UPup series has the open-source driver out-of-the-box.
CUPS printing, again as with previous 4 series does not work without HPLIP being installed in order to drive the Officejet G85 printer/scanner.
The Email desktop icon does not work.
Other than these old minor probs, this is a lil' beaudy!

Life is too short to spend it in front of a computer
Wireless keyboard OK
Thanks Barry:
Wireless keyboard now working fine.. I thought it might be usb1 vs USB 2... but who knows.
Abiword drops to desktop when you select anything to do with print.
Brother HL1440 prints fine on Parallel port. I see added pr drivers.

Hi ttuuxxx,
I can't speak for Zigbert but his files are here

His forum page is here and I would think he keeps this page up to date.

Hi Guys, Is there anybody with a better understanding of System fonts?
I went to the #xorg and talked with a couple of regulars, They informed that programs stop using pcf fonts back in 2002, well he have like 1.6MB of them that don't work the the latest abiword and the whole next series of abiword.
Also they said that xorg can use ttf fonts, which is great because we could save almost 1MB if we deleted the pcf fonts and obtained a few newer ttf fonts. So I tried to run puppy without the pcf fonts and There must be a config file i'm overlooking.
This is what I did.
I edited etc/x11/xorg.conf and removed the /misc font directory
I edited the /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/fonts.cache-1 and removed the line with the misc font folder
I deleted /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/misc folder where all the problematic fonts are located.
I checked /root/.xinitrc and nothing
also rxvt uses those pcf fonts and I don't know how to change that either.
So anyways I exited X, did the xorgwizard and it almost showed the desktop, and went back to the commandline, not X desktop.
any Ideas? It would be best If we did fix this abiword issue, if not we will be stuck using an old version of abiword or a new version where 50% of the fonts don't work like in 4.2.0

Listen guys I'm sure someone knows the linux font setup for puppy from start to finish and probably could save me days of work, Puppy is community project so start acting like it, I'm getting a bit frustrated with abiword, its a nightmare hanging over from 4.2
Please if you know how to drop the pcf font and use ttf for xorg and rxvt just let me know.
as for abiword I have just compiled the latest testing version without goffice, Just like 4.2 the pcf fonts don't work
these are the dead fonts
-Dingbats
-fixed
-helvetica
-lucida typewriter
-standard symbols
-Times
But the printer and spellcheck works:) lol
Just to put things into perspective, I have tried to compile the following versions of abiword all with broken fonts, so please see how serious this is, before we had a stable version 2.6.3 now we don't even have that, thanks to the print crashing abiword.
Dead font versions are:
-2.6.4
-2.6.5
-2.6.6
-2.6.7
-2.6.8
-2.7.0
-.2.7.1
-2.7.2
-2.7.3
-2.7.4
-2.7.5
Now do you see why a little help fixing this font issue would be nice???
There are 11 newer version that don't work right with fonts, lets have some team spirit here guys.

Lol Well I compiled it on 415 hmmm funny it worked here, ok I'll toss it. This is just some ideas, hey if we fix 2.6.3 printing then we'll be keeping gnumeric for sure, Just tossing some ideas around, theres 3 other spreadsheet that come to mind, I'll see what I can do.Lobster wrote:It needs to work ttuuxxxclick on the bin to run it
I tried clicking on a cell - had to use arrow keys to move
adding a number produced an error message
Missing library - need compiling for 64 bit - not sure
anyone else doing better?

xorg, slight flicker
Hey all,
Just giving 415 it's maiden voyage on the P3 600 coppermine with nvidea riva 8M graphics... xorg has a continual flicker on the 1200x1024 res both color depths and the 1024x768... very annoying to the point where it almost hurts the eyes, so switched to Xvesa and it's ok.
Nice and snappy.
Cheers
