Just wondering, is 214x using AUFS?
As far as I know AUFS support started in Puppy 2.16, you should read:

http://www.puppylinux.com/download/release-2.16.htm

You can also look at /usr/share/doc for release-2.14.htm and release-2.14r.html files, here you can find all changes made to 2.14R, and find any change made by Dougal and tempestous.

Hi ttuuxxx
Tried pburn-2.4.3. It nags for pfilesearch on start up but this didn't affect burning data including multisession & ISO's. I don't burn audio or video so others might want to test.
Great idea about 'burn ISO' & 'blank disc' buttons, that & data is all I use a burner for too.

Thanks clarf,
I'll look those up. I don't have the ISO yet or a working burner at the moment, but I can wait. :) I just wondered if aufs was default as the unionfs was problematic all the way through the 4.0 Puppy.

Another rhetorical question crossed my mind. Did Pizzasgood's 'no auto update' change to initrd(?) from 4.2 get incorporated into this?

Hi Guys it took a lot of tries and I got it working, Found a couple new tiny bugs and i'm fixing them :) But the good news is that it looks like the locales errors are gone, it added some weight to distro, due to the extra locales I added and other parts put it should be changeable now :)
Also its like 4am, I would like to get this fixed and uploaded tonight, Hope the wife doesn't get up, LOL or I'll be up the creek without a paddle, lol

Ok almost 5:30am, lol here's the link and I'll do some sort of release info tomorrow :)
http://www.ttuuxxx.gposil.com/2.14X/iso/214X5.iso
md5sum 608f12f48e1972a3154f8961ed026d3b /root/214X5.iso

Next release I would like to fix that one missing shape error,
-Maybe compile or update gxine & Abiword
- Add Simple mail since it accidentally got delete when I manually updated FireFox,lol
-Maybe add pburn.

off the top my head
this release has Pup-shots, url-sniffer, small version of gtksum, gqview, the other image viewer, xfburn, pnethood, hardinfo, and a lot of fixes, and backend libs, some new icons and mimes.
That's a good start :)
ttuuxxx

Below is a fix for the pet package manager, the reason it was broken was due to the locales, issues, puppy 4+ series uses its own locales for the package manager so things like this did get choppedout when I went and got other locales.

Just downloaded and burned, so quick first impression and a bug.

Firefox 3.5 seems pretty solid . 214x5 is also using a lot less resources than 4.20 or 4.21.

Haven't used much yet but found that PetGet will not work from the menu. The first screen comes up, to chose to install or uninstall a package, etc. but it will go no further. Works fine from the console though.

Great job as usual.

Here's a better list

Pup-shots
url-sniffer
gtksum
gqview
Gpicview
xfburn
pnethood
hardware info
Gparted-update
libparted updated
updated installer from 4 series
BMP extra plugins
Gconf
Giblib
imlib2
pcre
libtool (in devx)
scrot
mut
pmount
glibc_i18n_en
glibc_locales
cddb

turned on dbus at boot
removed puppy first off about splash
fixed locales issue,
fixed and changed pmount,
themed and changed mut,
fixed jwm error for 'corners',
some new icons and mimes.

I'm sure there's another dozen or so things I'm forgetting, I'll add to the list when it comes to me.

things left to do
make a info/help html the pdf version doesn't work right with the 'one off spalsh/info' That is why I just removed it.
and that other error 'Xlib: extension "SHAPE" missing on display ":0.0".'

Well Its kind of important, lol but its a shame that sometimes when you finally fix something thats been nagging you that another thing like the package manager gets broken, well it was easy enough to fix, all I had to do was run the broken package manager via the command line and look at the output in terminal and also in the log, Straight away it told me that the package manager locales were missing, so I just copied them over from 4 series, since the package manager is a hacked 4 series version, or was it 5, hmmm it works anyways, lol

On page 1 of this thread I'll try to keep a better track of whats been fixed in 2.14X, Hope that helps with documentation :) A bit late but better late than never, also when Its finished someone could always compare 2.14.1R with 2.14X diff and have a total list of updates, I bet that list would be very large, something around 60%+ I would say.

:D Hello,
Well, I`m running x5 ATM...Short review...
All in all, excellent...
Tested on 2 machines so far..
It flies on the old P3...Wireless works fine for both broadcom and raylink...

Firefox works perfectly...first 3.x series to do so...No lockups, no crashes, loves the addons and themes, flash works perfect...
Gimp installed and works fine..

However...jwmconfig is still mislocated...
And "init" is still the parent of all processes...
(Still cant frugal install it...will try full eventually)
Did I miss the answer for that one somewhere??

On the P4 laptop:
It doesnt like my ATI card, limiting me to 800x600 no matter what I choose, so I`m in vesa ATM, but my I810 worked fine for xorg on the "dinosaur" P3...
Will test on more machines and get back... :D

have you tried the jwmconfig from the menu? It works, I tried the menu height, set gtk2 theme, even the locale I changed from en_us to en_au, now that was cool :) So what part of jwmconfig isn't working and I'll try to fix it.

Well we can't be having that can we, lol If you have say 4 series laying around could you boot that up and find out what driver its using? Or find the sources to which ever driver you need and I'll compile it.

Hi ttuuxxx, loking very good so far however Beep doesn't work, beep-media-player file missing

Pmount doesn't show CD when the drive is empty or the CD is blank. Also the tray recycles when unmounting.

The pmount thing could be because of the version that was used, maybe its a feature, mount only if it needs to mounted. Beep on the other hand is strange. Looks like v6 might be coming tonight if we get enough new bugs. I don't feel comfortable to let it go and have a lot of new issues that easily could be fixed.

So if anyone ones find the bugs and I'll do a quick update release #6 maybe tonight, the other previous issues can be worked on the next release.

Ttuuxxx, I finally have 2.14x5 installed.......I had a bit of a disagreement with grub but it submitted in the end,

Package manager works fine, thanks again for the quick fix.

I did a full install on a P3 733mhz, 256 mb ram and 1gb swap. 2.14x5 seems to use a lot less resources than 4.20. On this machine I'm booting Windows 2000 (nlited naturally), Debris 1.5, Puppy 4.20, Puppy 4.12 and now 2.14x5, which uses the least ram and CPU.

I suspect you have a recent ATI chip, and Puppy214's Xorg7.0 won't play well with it.
ttuuxxx wrote:Well we can't be having that can we, lol If you have say 4 series laying around could you boot that up and find out what driver its using?
It will almost certainly be the "radeon" Xorg driver.
ttuuxxx wrote:Or find the sources to which ever driver you need and I'll compile it.
Well that would be the Xorg source ... which is extremely large - around 1GB.
Puppy4 probably works for puppyluvr because it has the newer Xorg7.3. Transplanting the Xorg7.3 radeon driver back into Xorg7.0 in Puppy2 is likely to result in a crash.

I think a good prospect for puppyluvr would be the proprietary ATI 3D driver. MU compiled various versions of these drivers for Puppy 2, 3, and 4 series. The 2-series installer (for kernel 2.6.18.1) is here -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=13114
I think it installs this dotpup -

Hi again ttuuxxx,
Iv'e copied beep-media-player executable from X4 to X5 and beep's fine now so a simple pet download might do you for now. I can't find any other obvious bugs at the moment.
