I should have tried this before !
I found a good workaround for the lack of support for the memory cards slots on my AAO.
I just use my external "Targus" card reader, which gives me an additional 3 USB ports.
It's easier and faster than using the USB cable and my camera, or rebooting on Linpus.
Nothing to install, works fine out of the box.

Hi Jay !
Sorry, this free forum really sucks, impossible to register new members on it, and I cant even register on the support forum. (same problem).
I must transfer this forum on the website @ http://pupitup.org/forum or http://forum.pupitup.org/ something.
I must find out how to install PHPBB on it (learning curve), and try to wget & transfer it, or start anew from scratch.
I might need to upgrade my hosting service accordingly and get Mysql up and running. (learning curve again).
I've question my host sometime ago, but they didn't answer, I'll get back at them...
I'll look into doing this when possible.
In the meantime if you have questions or some report, you can post it here.
Yves

Hi ! Welcome on your first post.
"Taped" music in the form of audio files can do wonders.
By the way you have registered on the old forum: http://pupitup.phpbb3now.com
You should do it here: http://pupitup.org/forum/phpBB3/
So you'd like to sing and find some folk to form a band, right ?
Sounds cool to me.
What instrument(s) do you play ?

Audacity 1.3.6 skips after recording Wave |
|
Greetings,
I now have a dual boot installed on this computer with win 98SE and pupitup.
When I play a wave with pmusic and record it with Audacity 1.3.6 the playback is choppy.
I don't understand linux well enough to know what background processes I can turn off and after a few bad experiences with trying to update programs I am reluctant to update Audacity.
Recording directly with mic or line in works fine.
This is not my main recording computer but I am starting to get the hang of Linux so I am curious to know if there are any tweaks for audio recording in Linux.
PIII 500 Mhz
512 MB RAM
37 gig HDD 7200 RPM
EXT2 partition 4.37 GB
Linux Swap partition 512 MB
SBLive! CT4780
Thanks for any ideas,
Doug

Hi Doug !
I presume you've read this:
http://pupitup.org/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=19&p=34&sid=62d181c3c724272263970ba0675ee53a#p34
If audacity runs fine to record from other input, the problem lays likely not with audacity.
In last resort you could write your .wav file on an external "walkman" type player or CD player, and record from line input.

I did see that - that was you and me having that conversation at your forum. I will see if running a different player gives me a better result.
Aside from that little issue-I recommend your derivative to anyone who wants to start audio recording on Linux. Just install pupitup and start recording. No need to install other stuff to make it work.
Thanks for your work,
Doug

Happy first Pupitup birthday ! |
|
Woof ! Woof !
Pupitup was released one year ago on January 19 2009.
So far, so good.
Thanks to all who have tried it.
I'm still using it exclusively for one year now, without bugs, data loss, or unwanted need to re install.
The only counter of downloads is on:
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/PUPITUP-45499.shtml
It musters over 700 dwnlds.
I presume that all dwnlds are a few thousands, and this tread hasn't become flooded with bug reports, thanks to the sturdiness of Puppy and this work horse 2.6.25.16 kernel.
The music software takes a bit of learning, but once properly configured (Jack, Qsynth, etc...) run flawlessly.
Music itself takes a lot more learning, off course and is a great source of fun.
A base 4.3.1 version is in the making, with more soft like Hydrogen, Ardour, Rosegarden, but needs a newer version of Muse Score and Audacity (libs compatibility).
As a rule, pupitup must move forward without compromising on compatibility with older versions, or netbook hardware support.
This later point is touchy, as only some rare kernels handle properly wifi, good wireless mouse support, and of course, seamless sound rendering.
Also some details need more work to run as good (possibly better), than the 4.1.2 version.
My dog "Arobas" is proud to have his picture all over the planet.
Hail Puppy Linux Power ! Woof ! Woof !

Good work eztuxer! I've been using various versions of puppy for the past year. Now that my 16 year old son is into recording and editing his music, pupitup has saved the day! Thank you for all your hard work.
Even my wife reluctantly tried puppy 4.3 a couple of months ago. I put it on a USB stick to make it easy for her so she didn't have to use a boot menu . Guess what? She rarely uses Vista now. But whenever she does, she always complains about it. Imagine that!
Anyways, thanks to you and the others who have made Puppy easy, fast and fun to use. And the price is right!
Don

Puppy and Linux FREE open source POWER !
This is not an advertising for a commercial music notation software, just a way to show how much money free software saves users:
Most of what this software does can be done with either or both Rosegarden and Muse Score:
http://shop.avid.com/store/product.do;jsessionid=7FDE1B983CC4181BBADA21EEAE17E657.ASTPESD1?product=306830378734544
This gives you an idea of what Puppy studio and Pupitup would cost if it wasn't free.
To be perfectly honest this price is for a pack allowing max 5 users in a class, but how many of these packs does the average class room need ?
On the other hand you can install ZILLIONS of the linux based version.
Thanks heaven for Linus Torvald, and all his followers.
