How to get klik software installer working in Puppy?

#1 Post by saintlangton »

Just tried using Klik on puppy - http://klik.atekon.de/

The idea is that it is a simple way of installing software on Linux, especially LiveCD's.

On the website it says if the linux distro doesn't come with klik setup then "please press Alt-F2 and paste: wget klik.atekon.de/client/install -O -|sh"

Then you just navigate the site to find the software you want 'klik' it and it downoads and runs the software.

Works like a charm on PCLOS. Puppy unfortunately give a whimper :(

The Alt-F2 don't do nothing. I believe it's supposed to open a terminal? Anyway I open rxvt and key it in, get an error asking me to "/root/klik-cmg-install-root" then a box saying I need to restart mozilla/firefox. Then a box says it's all ready.

Restart mozilla and klik - get a box popping up asking if I want to install the app (good) then it comes with an error "Error: error when trying to run foo"

Then I try the "/root/klik-cmg-install-root" run "wget klik.atekon.de/client/install -O -|sh" again.

gives this in rxvt:

Code: Select all

# wget klik.atekon.de/client/install -O -|sh
--00:55:32-- http://klik.atekon.de/client/install
           => `-'

It asks to restart mozilla so I do from rxvt go to the site and klik. It give the same error message as before "Error: error when trying to run foo" and this in rxvt.

Code: Select all

# mozilla
pidof: invalid option -- x
BusyBox v1.01 (2005.12.05-21:34+0000) multi-call binary

Usage: pidof process-name [OPTION] [process-name ...]

cat: /etc/*release: No such file or directory
sh: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
Can anyone make enough sense of that to get it to work? My guess is that it is busybox not playing ball?

If puppy could klik it'd be fab. Not the be all and end all but very usefull IMHO. Especially if it worked out of the box!

short answer, no

when you click a klik link, it downloads a recipe script something like this:

http://134.169.172.48/apt/?package=xvier@kanotix0504

the recipe script downloads .deb packages and converts them to a cramfs file, which is mounted -o loop when you want to run the program

I have tried it just before a few days. ITS NOT POSSIBLE IN PUPPY. I edited my fstab file. Downloaded klik. It installed properly but I get error when trying to download.

I tried downloading the game abuse.
The link points to klik:\\abuse. On clicking the link I get Xmessage "ERROR: while trying to run abuse". Same with other packages.
