How I installed Spotify in Puppy Linux

#1 Post by mawebb88 »

I signed up for this using my XP machine but I wanted it to work under Puppy 412 as well. Before the Puppy stuff a trick I had to use to get registered as I am in France and in France the service is only available by invitation (which I do not have). If you are in the UK you can sign up direct without an invitation. Anyway using Fir4efox 3.51 I Just used the "Start Private Browsing" option in Firefox 3.51 (under Tools). And then entered:

https://www.spotify.com/en/get-started/

Then you can register (nb restricted countries e.g. no access from USA)

So in Puppy. I followed the instructions in:

http://www.spotify.com/en/help/faq/wine/

I first installed wine-1.1.26-i486.pet downloaded from another topic in this forum:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=326574

There was 1 missing dependency (libGLU.so.1) for which I downloaded libGLU.so.1.3.070001 from:

http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/Libs/

putting it in /usr/lib/ and making the symlink libGLU.so.1

I rebooted for good measure and did a dependency check using the utility on the menu and this time all OK.

Ran winecfg from the console and did the audio test. Worked first time.

Downloaded the Spotify installer exe from

http://www.spotify.com/en/download/windows/

Then followed the instructions in:

http://www.spotify.com/en/help/faq/wine/

Thats it.

mawebb88 glad you like my wine .pet, thanks for using it, bit puzzled by this :-

"There was 1 missing dependency (libGLU.so.1) for which I downloaded libGLU.so.1.3.070001"

I need some part of GLU, for openBVE which is the main thing I use wine for, (I used to get an error when I ran the prog, it never got past the error), after putting Xorg, and Xorg dev stuff in, it went away, and I asumed that was the end of it, I will see if I can sort it out.

Hi lezzloco
Any chance of a sfs instead of your pet. I can't find a sfs of this latest wine. For big apps I prefer sfs's.

I suspect the free version is no longer available no matter what country you’re in.

I tried several proxy servers and found two:
Chile: 200.55.208.203 port 80
Austria: 193.171.32.6 port 80

After configuring my browser to use either of the above proxies this page offered me a monthly subscription sans ads: http://www.spotify.com/en/

By chance I happen across this thread and became intrigued by the possibility of seeing if I could access the Spotify site (just for fun). :)

Thanks indeed for this description.

To add to a complete computer idiots frustration I failed to use the recommendations they have added.

To install gecko. that only locked the whole thing but if one answer negatively and not want to install it then the Spotify program works regardless of the missing gecko.

so if you are a nobody when it comes to computers then you know to not accept to isntall the gecko unless you have a computer that accepts it. Try without like I did and it just works.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
