pStartupShutdownSound 1.4-1 Subject description: Activate a sound at startup & shutdown/reboot |
|
Hi,
We often read questions in beginners & how to sections, about how to play a sound at startup, well here's a startup sound maker, very simple and small
- menu entry under multimedia group
- default dir is /usr/share/audio
- if you want other than standard sounds, just put it in default dir
- default sound is 2barks.au
- run fixmenus & retstart window manager (refresh menus) after install
WARNING - IT IS MADE AND TESTED IN PUPPY 4.3.1 - I don't know if it is compatible with other (or older) series
No warranty whatsoever
Updated to v 1.4-1 - Modified shutdown sound so it plays until finished
Updated to v 1.4 - Added - shutdown sound
Updated to v 1.3 - Added - stop sound function
Updated to v 1.2 - warning to use only .wav & .au
Updated to v 1.1 - default dir is /usr/share/audio

http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/pir/PIRsfx.shtml
suggestions
menu /desktop is where the prog should locate
a random
and loop button (the loop button can be used with tranquil sounds)
Many thanks trio

Hi Mr. Crustacean,
Anyway, it's made with a very simple basic Xdialog..not many functions can be added, for that I have to use gtkdialog (which will be bigger), so I'll let this tiny app as is.
Thanks for using it

This is good but it gives me a problem. When I add music files in .wav format to the /usr/share/audio directory, the program doesn't know they are there. Only the files in the directory when the program was first run will show up in the list of choices. Can you help?

Crafty bear,
Shouldn't the directory be /usr/share/sounds ?
Cheers

On my Upup-476, that directory only has links to /usr/share/audio and I don't know how to easily add links??? Wouldn't it be better to use the source directory? Just asking. Please don't be offended as I like your program and I want it to work for old guys like me.

Hmm,
I don't have dpup. But, you may try to search (pfind) 2barks.au for example, and see where it is, then you can put your audio file there

No it's Upup I have and I found the audio files in /usr/share/audio with links in /usr/share/sounds. Seems like /usr/share/audio should be the default directory for your app, trio? Can you confirm this on the puppy version that you run?

no probs
I tried modifying it
using madplay instead of aplay (it has th ability to repeat and use a random play)
However my code locked up my machine
messed up my startup
and meant I had to reinstall Puppy
- or rather set it up from CD
only a few minutes work
Ah well

Can you really make your own sounds from scratch with this app?
 |
It makes a sound at startup, so what?
