[SOLVED] No Audio on Thinkpad A30
[SOLVED] No Audio on Thinkpad A30
Running 4.2.1 on an old IBM thinkpad A30 with a AC97 sound chip with no audio. When I run alsa setup and choose ESS 18xx I get an encouraging woof woof but nevertheless no sound when playing files on Gxine. Sound worked fine with when copied cd to ram but once fully installed into main HDD sound went away. Any ideas? I really wanna keep this awesome OS but i need my audio for skype etc

Like most AC97-based audio chipsets, your CS4299 audio device is supported by the snd-intel8x0 ALSA driver.
You should not be choosing the "legacy" section in the Alsa Wizard. This applies only to ISA audio devices.
Your audio device is on the PCI bus, and should be automatically detected.
That's wrong. The ESS 18xx is an ISA-based audio chipset.iluii wrote:When I run alsa setup and choose ESS 18xx
That's also wrong, for the same reason.iluii wrote:Changed settings to the CS4236

works!
Thanks tempestuous ! That got my sound going, pardon my noobness but it seems it was a gxine problem all along because Pmusic works fine but gxine still doesnt want to cooperate sometimes just video with no audio and sometimes just flat out crashes, using xvesa since xorg showed blue screen. Guess ill try Mplayer and see if that works
