how do I remove taskbar and pager?

#1 Post by srandev »

All,

I just installed puppy-linux and I love it. I would like to know how remove the tasbar and pager from the display.

I just want a linux box running xserver so I can use xli to display full screen image on
the screen here in my lab.

Please any suggestions are greatly apprecaited.

Click the bomb icon in the upper right corner of your desktop, and your mouse pointer will change to a skull. Now click the pager to make it disappear. Click the bomb icon again and then click the taskbar to kill it as well. You can even get rid of the bomb icon if you'd like by clicking it twice.

Make the mouse cursor disappear when typing

It would be nice if the mouse cursor went away when you started typing and came back when you moved the mouse. You could do that in Windows Me but not in Windows 2000 Pro. Go figure.

if you want, you do not need to run a window manager at all
edit /root/.xinitrc and comment or delete
exec $CURRENTWM

start the programs you want to run in .xinitrc

if you want to display pictures fullscreen, gtksee can do that

the evilwm window manager does not have a task bar or pager

Ok,

i've edited the /root/.xinitrc and commented out exec $CURRENTWM but i can't view picture using gtksee because it can't open a display.

How do i get
the evilwm window manager.

Or is there a way to save changes to a startup file that will remove taskbar and pager upon boot up.

i'm not sure exactly what you want to do

if you just want to display pictures full screen, gtksee can do that

run Puppy normally, with fvwm95 or whatever window manager you like

start gtksee from the menu

select the folder with your pictures (top left window in gtksee)

if you like, select a picture (at the right)

press ENTER to display the picture fullscreen
press ESC to return to the windowed view

press ctrl+S to start a slide show
press ESC to stop the slide show

click Help to see how to start gtksee from the command line in fullscreen mode, as a slide show, etc etc

how to save settings.

#8 Post by srandev »

All,

With the help from this forum i've been able to remove the taskbar and the pager and the
bomb also from the desktop.

I would just like to know if there's a way i can save my settings so that upon the next reboot the the taskmanager, pager and the bomb don't appear on the desktop.

Sorry for any confusion.
