How to Read/Write XP, iPod mini files; get modem to work?

#1 Post by ChazZTheSpazZ »

I'm completely new to Linux, in a sense. I've been familiar with the name for about a year now and i've heard good things about it but never got around to actually booting it. My computer's cd-rom blew up shortly after buying it and didn't include a floppy drive when i bought it. I suppose that's what I get for buying a Dell.

Anyway, I was wondering how, after booting Puppy from the live-CD, do i read files from my WinXP HD? Also, I have an iPod Mini and was wondering how i can read/write from it (it doubles as an mp3 player and 6GB of external usb storage). Furthermore, I want to connect to the internet via dialup with puppy but it can't find my modem, help?

Welcome to the kennels. :)
check out the tutorials (you lucky Puppy!)

What modem?
Use this in Puppy to find out:
Start / Control Panel / System information

If it is a Dell winmodem it may not be supported - being only half a modem. Do you have an external modem you can use?

If it's a Dell Winmodem (broadcom) see here http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

If it's Conexant based HSF/HCF see here http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?p=21772#21772

Try (MUT) the icon on the desktop labelled drives. It should allow you to 'mount' the windows partitions for read-only access if formatted with NTFS and read/write if formatted with FAT. I'm not sure but it may also recognise iPod Mini as a usb drive and mount it too.
