I added some pictures of version 3.01 running version 2.12 virtual
just to give you an idea what it looks like

special note :this is built especially for version 3.01 puppy linux (runs well in fat free 3.01 too)
launch any bootable iso just place it in root
This is the linux version of Qemu
1.)You just place a bootable iso in root
2.) Menu>Utility>qemu vm
3.)thats it
remember qemu is a virtual machine that allows you to run other operating systems
while puppy is running also it is much slower this way but is a valuable tool for many uses
test any version of puppy or other iso
without installing or burning an iso
or without rebooting

Hacking the launch script and tips to make this work for many special needs
if you want to customize the launch script for your special needs its very easy to do
just place symbol # in front of the line of code I placed in
/usr/bin/qemu_launcher_script
then add you own special setup then it will boot your preferences
and you can store many custom set ups there just place a comment symbol in front of the ones you are not using
also make sure you check the /mnt directory and see if there are no empty folders there of old mounts of iso's the umount in puppy 3.01 doesnt remove empty folders

Seems to be working fine in 4.00, I've tried XP and a few versions of Puppy in it. I'd been wanting something to let me try out all the non-live CD distros without having to set up a partition for it. I originally tried VirtualBox, but it wasn't being cooperative. I decided to try Qemu instead, came across your package, installed it, and booted a Puppy ISO with no problem.
Thanks for the package!

Good to hear your results
A funny thing about Qemu I started using the Windows version of Qemu to run linux on my USB flash drive Now I use the linux version of Qemu and your booting XP with it
another nice use for Qemu s helping others on the forum or IRC chat with installations
you can run through all the install steps without messing up your own system in the process using different versions
thanks for trying it out

Nevermind, I think I found it here:

But instead it seems the "Concurrent download limit is exceeded."
Any other mirrors?

Puppy 411-retro frugal on 3G hdb6
installed your pet on 411-retro.
test boot puppy-lite-213. ok!
did a little research on qemu
created 1G raw puppy.img
setup and full 411-retro hd install on virtual hda1 with grub mbr
works good but slow
now i need to do more research

Thanks I am using this pet to run the ISO of the INX live CD in Puppy 215CE Alpha. It is very slow to load but once loaded runs well.
Linux = Learning through doing  :? :D
The learning curve may be steep but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You just have to pass the occasional oncoming train to get there.

Question?
Hey, first of all THANKS allot for this QEMU its perfect (am using it with 412 excellently) my PC though is too fast to notice any speed problems but at this point in using it, I've seen very nice results.
the only question i have is other then altering the contents of the ISO you load is there anyway to share a directory between host OS and the QEMU OS? if so this would be the most perfect version of QEMU for puppy yet and so small and efficient. not that it dose not it the mark for me its just that would help a HEAP and be the icing on the cake!
Thanks,
Nekroze

If you have an .img file you can mount it using in a terminal...
run 'mount' to check for free loop devices first.
You cannot alter files whilst qemu is running but I have (accidently) had it running whilst mounted!
A http server can be used to connect whilst running too.
you can mount a flash stick as an image file too...I recently used qemu to install windows to it including the boot loaders ready for a usboot setup.
Make a link from say /dev/sda (or whatever the stick is...note not a partition) to say /root/flash.img and then use /root/flash.img for qemu...no need to mount the flash stick.
mike
Code: Select all
losetup -o 32256 /dev/loop3 /path/to/file.img
mount /dev/loop3 /path/to/mount/point

Terminal Code?
that terminal code is that to be executed within HOST os or QEMU?

live cd 4.1.2 - nothing to see
Hi all,
Running live cd 4.1.2
0. What is the advantage of Quemu above Vbox ?
1. After install got message of 'missing deps".
Thanks Mikeb - reloaded sorry too much in a hurry.
No missing dpes anymore.
Is that because of a wrong dl, or is it ok ?
2. Placed iso in root. Opened Quemu through menu.
After telling which iso, screen disappears and stays away /
Any ideas ?
