Sound not working: Creative AWE 32 card |
|
Hi people!
Puppy has changed my creaking old pentium 200MMX 48Mb into something useful!
Only problem is I can't get the sound working (yet)
I've read the help bit but I can't find which driver I need.
I also have vector linux 4.3 on it and the sound works there. (On boot it mentions something called snd-sb16 related to sound but I can't find any file called that when I do a search)
Windows 98 on the machine says that the sound card is an creative AWE 32
Any ideas?
Thanx

First, make sure that the sound is turned all the way up. Double click on the speaker icon on the lower right of the taskbar. set it up all the way.
If it is not there, or is unavailable, you may need to load the module.
If I remember correctly, snd-sb16 is alsa?
Puppy uses OSS and it may be slightly different. If someone does not have the answer right off (what the OSS module name is), I will look at it and post back.

So I take it this is an old ISA card?
Try this:
# modprobe sb
The "sb" module can also accept some commandline parameters, i think this was discussed on another thread.
If it works, put the "modprobe sb" into /etc/rc.d/rc.local so it starts at every boot.

I tried that # modprobe sb and...
It worked like a charm!
Cheers BarryK!
