Modprobe: missing /lib/modules/2.4.29/modules.dep

#1 Post by richiew »

Hi there.

Having successfully got Puppy working on an old desktop PC, I am now attempting to get an old laptop working (Toshiba Tecra 8000).

I have had various fun and games to get this far (had to change PCMCIA setting in the bios and follow some Xorgconfig stuff from elsewhere.)

Now I am in the process of trying to get ALSA working and also wireless network. In the latter case I am coming up against the following error:

#modprobe ndiswrapper
modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.29/modules.dep (No such file or directory)

This has stumped me a bit and I would welcome any suggestions.

Thanks,

Rich

I have done some more digging and it appears that the modules directory and subfolders disappears.

Now I know that I wouldn't believe that to be possible myself, but it is happening.

I left /lib open on the desktop and after a bit of time the modules directory was removed.

I have no idea why, or how to stop it happening.
