How to unmount hda2 from console?

Can someone help me with the command i would use in the console to unmount my harddrive so i can install grub? Puppy is on is hda2. Thanks.

Why do you need to un-mount hda2 to install Grub -- what are you trying to accomplish? Have you read the relevant parts of the GRUB Manual ? What have you already tried? And what happened?

Anyway, the command to un-mount a partition is umount, so for example

Code: Select all

# umount /dev/hda2
would un-mount that partition, if nothing is using it at the time. Note that if you installed Puppy to /dev/hda2 and then ran it from there, umounting /dev/hda2 could be tricky... a bit like pulling a seat out from under yourself while you are still sitting on it :-)

When I went to install grub I recived a message cant install grub unmount drive then try again but i figured it out at after I thought about it a while LOL. Thanks for the reply :lol:
