One thing that I have not fixed.

It was reported that if the "Enable screensaver" checkbox is unticked, the screen still gets blanked.

Yeah, I don't know why.

pupX creates /root/.xset.sh, which gets executed in /root/.xinitrc.
All seems ok, except that the "s off" parameter has no effect. Weird.

Did you notice hiawatha issue I posted in beta2 thread?
I could run hiawatha and browse from "localhost" and pplog is working but if someone from outside tries to connect to server it doesn't let him, says "Failled to connect" (pure-ftpd works ok, so there's mistake regarding IP adress or similar) Maybe it's not bug but some permission problem in hiawatha config.

ntpdate

#4 Post by byebyekitty123 »

Just installed 4.3beta3... I found that ntpdate exists (horray!), but when run from the command line I get the following error:
Error : Servname notg supported for ai_socktype

would this be a missing library/package?

Here is a most welcome 'feature': in Open Office there is an option to instruct the program to use system fonts instead of those the programmer expressed. Tools>Options>View. For some strange reason this finally works in this release. That is the first time EVER for me. No more scrappy fonts in OO. Yay!

ntpdate

#6 Post by byebyekitty123 »

Never mind... looks like it was because /etc/services was missing ntp, and psync adds the appropriate lines. could the default /etc/services file be updated?

Speaking of fonts, Seamonkey 1.18 renders so well that the need to install additional non-free fonts seems to be over. It also seems much better at tidying up its cache too, so my save file is a stable size.
To disable screensaver permanently drop this script in start-up

Code: Select all

xset s off -dpms

Printer drivers seem limited. I guess to keep size to minimum.........

Hi barry I added the puppy logo very softly to the image :)
Wasn't very sure how to add it to the clouds like you mentioned in your blog, But I gave it a shot anyways :)

Heh heh, one person has already responded "ugh!" to the background image.

How about these two:

- This Beta also/still ignores both of my laptops' power buttons. An ACPI thing?

- Adding sfs packages still messes up the desktop icons with defaults upon reboot.

- Not having a network cable connected during boot still results in the otherwise previously configured network card not being configured/brought-up. Still annoying.

- The wallpaper too for-children/cartoonish, IMO.
- Too much blue in the icons, otherwise nice enough, IMO :)

(frugal install 425; just copied the sfs, initrd.gz and vmlinuz from the iso, loaded from FreeDOS with LinLd)

The 1st one definitely (too) cheesy :D

Dunno what to say about the 2nd one, other than it doesn't appeal to me personally... too deep blue and too sharp edges and too much contrast maybe :)

ALSA - GoodNews-Bad News

#16 Post by tlchost »

ALSA now detects my onboard audio

hda-intel 8086:27d8 (rev 01)

But.....even when alsa mixer controls are set for max, and volume set for max, no barks.

What have I missed?

CUPS

#17 Post by tlchost »

The CUPS in this release works fine for my HP LaserJet1012 connected via USB.

I'd like to use this configuration in other Puppies....can I simply copy /etc/cups to an external drive and load that into another puppy?

Thanks
Thom

Looking good but still having this problem in that coming back into either Sidux or Pclinux I get the following error

Error 4 Superblock mount time in future and I have to do a fsck before booting

I tried setting the time for an hour earlier and a day earlier hoping this might fool the other two linuxs but I still get the same.

Both have GMT as time zones and both show correct time so I am stumped

Anyone else get this error? It's a show stopper for me.

Cheers
Tony

I like the theme, sort of retro/teletubbies

mp4 link fixed, thank you.

Pcur does not offer me any cursor choices.

BBCiplayer works lovely thank you.

Sea monkey crash once, cannot remember exactly but it was some thing about secure info blah blah

Looking great apart from this Superblock thingy

Cheers
Tony
