Gnome Desktop Environment
Gnome Desktop Environment
hi all
I have seen a few posts about this subject "well kinda"
Does anyone have or is anyone interested in a full version of thee Gnome Desktop for Puppy Linux.
I am looking for one , because I like gnome especially the one in debian but so far Puppy 4.2.1 is the only linux distro that works out of box with my hardware.
Unfortunately puppy doesn't have gnome---yet.

Try mounting the .sfs ,( click on it) if it will let you , you can copy all the stuff to your system and then try to start gnome . You might try it on a new pupsave file if you dont want to risk messing up your system.

for anyone interested. To use the sfs of gnome mentioned earlier just copy the sfs into puppy 4.2.1 as well as add install the two other programs mentioned on the earlier post. works fairly well so far though it does seem to have some minor glitches when using the broadcom b43 series wifi system. I cannot say how well other machines will fair but it works on mine.
advice if you choose to use this version of gnome don't remove rox puppy pin from /root/.xinitrc as mentioned in the other post. comment it out and see if everything still works. some systems seem to load up with rox and won't work unless its running.
pwidgets won't show on the gnome desktop
wbar appears in window even though you have it set to -sleep 3
would love help in possible fixes for those issues as i like both programs alot.
I still would love to see a version of puppy built around Gnome though. and i may yet try to remaster a version of puppy with gnome added in.
thanks for the help Runtt21

That reminds me of the only thing that Puppy lacks before I will go it alone with the Pup. I seem to require a couple of card games within which I can rest for a few minutes during my work day. These do not yet exist in any Puppy though a game in MacPup 4.2x comes close. The Gnome versions of Spider and Freecell are the two. There are cutdown versions available that do not satisfy. In fact they're terrible. I am trying to learn enough so that I can make these, and a few others, available in an SFS add-on. Yeah, I know that the Gnome thing can get big... Maybe my idea is not viable.
The next idea for me is the adapt that MS Windows pinball game Space...something or other. Honestly these higher quality games mean a great deal to me. I am 68 and really don't care for all the "bang bang you're dead" games that the kids seem to thrive on and my old brain is too damaged from years of listening to television advertising for any of the puzzle games offered.
Just thought I'd share because someone mentioned Gnome.
The Pup is as near perfection as I have seen.
Stuck, as I am with dial-up because of where I live, I find that the Pup gives me the fastest downloading speeds of any other Linux.

Re: Gnome Desktop Environment
if you download barry's jpup or gpossils dpup, both versions you can Install gnomegames lite. Which is a cutdown version of gnomegames I put together for puppy, really I only removed I think it was 2 games, that had python deps, they weren't the card games.TrailerTrash wrote:hexdef101 wrote:hi all
