The wikka wiki was upgraded to version 1.2. The new features are listed here.

Config options:

1 - "enable_user_host_lookup" - now this is set in the config, and I set it to 0 (not enabled);

2 - theme fine-tuning (still ongoing).

Right at the bottom of the page is info advertising wikka that is a distraction
Can it go?

As a registered user, you can change the display
to Kubrick (similar to Wordpress) and 'light'
(in your settings option)
I have changed the front page so it also displays
reasonably in these wikka 1.2 themes

Will other than the default theme be used?

Now that is a big argument to get registered in the wiki, isn't it, to be able to choose your own theme.

I wonder if we can agree to use one theme for version 1.2 of wikka wiki.

I have not looked yet, but are admins now able to delete users? If so, we can restore self-registration. But as you said, the admins have to give their opinion.

My own opinion here is that it is easier to register 1-2 true contributors per day than to delete hundreds of spam accounts every week.

As it is, about a third of registration queries are misled by "edit" code in wiki URLs or password prompt when downloading a file (ie, from puppylinux.asia or puppyisos.org). Another third are gmail or yahoo account users with meaningless names whose intent is apparently to spam the wiki (They never reply to friendly query so they are not registered).

Yes, call it "over-management", but spammers and crackers are ruthless when allowed room.

Maybe we can invite "gentle spammers"? Laughing

ADDITION: Of the 67 registered users, only 10 have added any page at all. That makes actual contributors as 15% of registered users. (For those who have edited any page at all, the number is 11 users.)

Linking to the home page of the free software in use is a time honored tradition and rightfully so, it shows gratitude for the developer’s efforts. It also shows others where they can get what they need to setup their own wiki.

On Lobster’s other point I say the following: If the wiki XHTML is corrected so that it will pass the W3C validator test then I think we should keep the link to it at the bottom of every wiki page. If however the wiki XHTML is not able to pass the XHTML validator test then IMO the link should not appear on any wiki page.

Raffy: If you like I can show you how to correct the errors in the wiki XHTML so that it can pass the validator test, you only need to ask.

Raffy: Before the software upgrade every wiki page had a link to the home page (at the top of every page). IMO this is an indispensable navigation tool, I think it should be put back.

Thanks, Puppyite, for pointing out the error in XHTML code. It is now corrected.

(FYI, the codes are stock wikka wiki 1.2, and I merely inserted the Puppy logo and modified some CSS colors in the default theme. Re: homepage URL - it is still there in the header.)

I understand that the XHTML and CSS validation URLs are there at the footer for anyone to be able to check a page at his/her option. Plus, of course, the WikkaWiki link which you already explained.

Not really, am just puzzled, because the home page is always there whenever I browse the wiki.

I tried other templates but the home page URL is still there.

What am I missing?

In my Sunday post I gave code which IIRC shows where the home page link was previously located on every wiki page, perhaps it wasn't a clear enough example.

Please tell me where in the screenshot below you believe there exists an explicit link to the wiki home page? When I say explicit, I mean where do you see the word "Home" that is an HTML link to the wiki home page?
