Yes sinc, ttuuxxx and I had already discussed putting GtkHash in the next release. It will be there.

thank you sir. i hope I am not annoying with small suggestions like that, I feel bad sometimes giving input since I am not actually coding anything but I appreciate your attention. If you ever feel its a useless suggestion that doesn't work please feel free to tell me "shutup and go sit in the corner" I will take it well. Very Happy

i am posting from beta2 right now and this time MY WIRELESS WORKED PERFECTLY. It auto-recognized my b43legacy driver on the first boot and all worked as it should.

I will try and do a full-install and report back how that goes.

EDIT:

Alright, I tried out the full install and still could not get that to work. I will try one more time just to make sure.

And I tried again and still could not get a full install to work. Hopefully its just me but full install is a no go on my machine.
error 2: bad file or directory

Installed 482b2 as follows: First I installed it on an ext2 partition as a frugal install. Then using the frugal installation, used Gparted 4.5(consider updating that to 4.6) to format an ext4 partition. Then I did a full hd installation on the new ext4 partition.

Bad news: This beta has the same booting problem that old beta had, error msg was different: ie:
:root login on 'tty1'
touch: cannot touch /tmp/bootcnt.txt': Read only file system
-sh: /tmp/bootkernel.log: Read only file system
This script will run X windows for you.
cat: /etc mouse device: No file

The contents of /mnt/home/tmp are: networkmodules, pkg_hompages_mod, temp2.pbm and temp.pbm

Good news: Installed beta2 to the new ext4 partition and this is what I'm posting from. You've apparently corrected all of the ext4 problems. It's passed the test of recognizing a frugal installation and booting it from an ext4 partition. It is fast and stable.

Still unable to set global font size.

I still have the full hd of 482b installed, so if there is any dir or file that you'd like for me to post (or edit with your code) to try to help solve the problem, let me know. Can't believe that you got the new beta up so quick. Is synaptic ready for another test?

Thanks,
Jim

Installed 482b2. Frugal install to hard drive. On first shut down, screen goes black without displaying the prompt to create a 'save file, but I have come across this before, notably with NOP, so I knew the underlying program was still running, so created a 'save file blind.
CUPS still wants an unknown username and password, so printer administration not possible. When running the printer wizard for the first time, Firefox halts in the process to import settings etc.
Wifi (stinky Broadcom) was recognised automatically and needed no extra modules to be loaded. Config properly saved between boots.

I've got to d/l this one tonight! If it makes 477 look slow, then it must be anticipating your needs and acting accordingly. Laughing I'll let you know how it goes.

defaultemail does not quite work right. Using it loads Simplemail into a barebones Firefox, ok so far, but then clicking a link in an email opens a new tab and loads the page, but again in a barebones Firefox. It would be better if Simplemail loaded first off in a full Firefox.

Full hard drive install of 482 Beta 2 (the latest release) still fails with the quickly scrolling error messages, as mentioned previously.

Just for info purposes, P3....733 mhz......256 mb ram w/ 1 gb swap.....regular IDE optical and hard drive.

Seems to be fine running live but cannot install. Will try once more to install just to verify.........

Second attempt of full hard drive install of 482 Beta 2.....same result.

Error messages scrolling pretty fast but appear to be the same as reported by jim1911.

I much prefer full installs but......did a frugal install of 482 Beta 2 with no problems. I'll do some testing with the frugal until the full install problems are figured out.

Seems pretty fast in brief testing so far.

Had the same trouble with abiword loading for a split second only from the menu. The fix is to load it via terminal, close it down, then re-boot, and it loads fine from the menu. Weird or what!

I tested in 482b1 the update repository list from Package Manager.

It downloaded the needed files in just two minutes Smile . BUUUTTT, the write process was very slow (about 45 minutes) Sad , I could see the package name scrolling down the window, this I/O to the screen could contribute to increase the final time and I think it´s completely unnecessary.

To be honest I read sometimes just to have an idea of the remaining time, calculating the number of packages and looking the alphabetic order. Any user could be worried about time (I was about my laptop battery because I leave the AC cable in the office), BUUTTT a percent indicator bar for the process could be enough for that. Surely that operation (writting to the screen the package name each time it´s written to the file), have a time impact in the process.

It´s just a suggestion.

clarf,

I have uploaded a ServicePack1 which hopefully should address the full install prob, it did for me...here's hoping Smile

The Global font issue seems to be hardware related, apparently Barry had noted it and had a work around, i'll have to track it down.

Cheers
