gXine won't work with new locale

I changed my locale to he_IL (NON iso-8859-1) and now when I try starting gXine the processor goes crazy and the computer gets stuck.

I tried searching all the configuration options in the program and any possible config files and found no mention of font/language other than for subtitles.

Any idea what this is about?
