pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci

While attempting to set up my wifi PCMCIA card on a brand-new Puppy 1.0.7 installation (my first Puppy!) I encountered this:

# ndiswrapper -l
pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci
lspci: Cannot find any working access method.

I was unable to proceed any further in setting up my PCMCIA wifi card. Each time I tried to load a driver with the ndiswrapper it failed.

Please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
