Puppy on Tablets |
|
Looking at tablets such as the potential Crunchpad
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CrunchPad
If powered by Intel atoms - how would tablets run Puppy?
Some ideas . . .
changed jwm to have max 8 virtual desktops and turned on autohide
used f11 to maximise Seamonkey
--------------
on screen keyboard
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=261712&search_id=1122631772#261712
also needed
libXP-so.6.pet
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=356654#356654
-----------
beginning to think the wbar in dpup (and is also a separate component) can be accessed from keyboard
but . . . JWM menu can be brought up with f12
Until there is a device or touch screens become mainstream
it is difficult to offer potential solutions . . .
What are your thoughts?

i think there's no prolem to run puppy on this tablet
even with jwm tray autohide
no need for wbar 'cause you can have all the launchers in jwm's tray
or even better use openbox with fbpanel or lxpanel( the latest version can autohide)
in openbox you can determine fullscreen or undecorate for any particular application ( i do this for opera for example)

Thanks for possibilities.
It may not be Crunchpad that emerges as dominant (if at all)
but emerge they will.
One aspect that intrigued me (this is one of the features of Linux
and of smart phones and possibly tablets (never used one)
is the ability to scroll and save between open virtual screens.
So an open virtual screen is in a condition of last usage.
Are there any Puppys that have a resume mode?
A facility used on laptops . . .
I seem to remember there is some experimentation along this line . . .
One of the things possible with Icewm is dragging programs between
virtual screens on the taskbar.
Maybe we need to be in the future a little more.
Many of our technophile Puppys will be ready to
pimp their Puppy and build a Woof powered tablet . . .
Future Fun

Guys here is another contender - watch the video
http://gizmodo.com/5471559/notion-ink-adam-tablet-caught-on-video-specs-finalized
This again is ARM powered
uses a tracker on the back -- like that
It uses Android, Ubuntu or Chromium

Wepad |
|
Guys
this wee Wepad could run existing Puppys as it uses the Atom processor - not ARM
http://eu.techcrunch.com/2010/03/19/apple-ipad-how-about-a-little-german-innovation-instead/
Do any of our German forum members have any insight/pricing?

wepad |

Okay
Lobster,
I had a bit more time this am and found some more information for you.
The wepad is scheduled for market release in April. Prices are unknow so far, but are supposed to be below the iPad. Here are some pictures and German text
http://meedia.de/nc/background/meedia-blogs/felix-disselhoff/felix-disselhoff-post/article/was-kann-der-deutsche-ipad-killer_100026918.html?tx_ttnews[backPid]=1733%23formular
A good indication for size here
http://www.youserbase.org/de/Mobile/neofonie/WePad/Comments
About the OS it says on the first site
| Quote: | | - Linux-Derivat mit Android als Betriebssystem |
Betriebssystem meaning Operating System.
Also very interesting that neofonie is not the manufacturer, just the marketing outlet, so to speak. This company is supposedly the hardware supplier
http://www.4tiitoo.com/
You obviously have the specs in your link already. Note that the wepad has USB connections. So it should be able to accomodate a Puppy installation.
That's all for the moment, let me know if you need more.

Thanks Wuwei (your name is my favorite form of attack in martial arts incidentally),
Info appreciated.
It will be interesting which webpad becomes the major seller
This introduction of new technology process may take several years . . .
however gadget mania is now rife amongst the non-geek fraternity . . .

You can also do it in JWM - right click and drag
a bit fiddly in such a small area

There are no available, meaningfully Informations about the Wepad beside Copy and Paste - (or i am not able to find them).
Mostly an advertising campaign up to now.
Hundreds of almost identically articles.

Thanks guys - interesting - we need to stay ahead of the hardware loop
One of the most expensive items on netbooks is the screen
Smartpaper webpads may well emerge - monochrome to start
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_paper
We have a nice monochrome theme ready . . .

Maybe I am thinking small but I've heard that there are some touch screen MP5(that's how Chinese call them) with Windows compatable OS inside.
Does that mean we can run Puppy with the MP5s?

I think you are right to look to China.
Cost decrease and increased functionality will be their specialty.
This 2.5 year old puppy (already Iphone savvy)
shows the need for a chewable tablet
- should be a programmer by 5/6 with further encouragement
http://laughingsquid.com/a-2-5-year-old-uses-an-ipad-for-the-first-time/
I wonder how many Android phone manufacturers
will also scale up their phones
- and leave in the cameras and other features?
