ESS allegro 1988 card does not work very well

Subject description: sound out after tweaking the volume, but no sound in		  
hi,

Being new to puppy linux I am still very impressed how it works. My old hp omnibook xe3 works just fine, except for the sound card.

I have used the alsa wizard and before and after this the sound out works after tweaking the volume.

But, no matter what i do, the sound in is just not working.

Is somebody willing to help a newbie?
