Okee-dokee, just did a fresh frugal install on an old eMachine from a remastered dpup5 CD which contained devx. Grabbed apt_synaptic-dpup.pet and installed, then installed the patch from previous thread. Tried installing hydrogen drum machine and got the same libc6 error.

Boogers.

Edit: I see that James C is planning the same thing. I didn't do it on my laptop because it's set up the way I want now, and I'm loving it too much to bork it. But I do love how dpup looks on a bigger monitor!

These posts are starting to have a familiar tone to them.

Wiped the partition and did a fresh full install of Dpup Beta 5.Installed the service pack, Synaptic/Apt pet and the patch from the other thread.Verified that "testing" was enabled in the repository list and still the same errors.

See screenies.

Guess I'll try plan "C".....or is it "D".... :)

Don't despair the database fix is nearly there, i'm about 50% through it, should have it up by tonight, then we'll be right...Synaptic will also be aware of Dpup's std install and it's libs as well, so that should get rid of any errors...

Just a little longer.

gposil,

No hurry.... Synaptic will be worth it when it is finished. That said, I'll be downloading a fix as soon as I know it's available. :)

Part of testing is finding a problem, seeing the severity of the problem and figuring out a fix for the problem. The process takes time, so no big hurry.

No complaints from me....... :)

I am a bit confused.
Is this about the synaptics support for devices like a combined track-point as in a Thinkpad R40?
In /etc/xorg.conf.t2 I see something about that, but not in my regular xorg.conf.
Should I worry?

By the screenshots posted, this is Synaptic Package Manager, the same Synaptic used by Ubuntu.

Correct. This adds apt-get functionality to dpup, which opens up gobs of possibilities.

Fresh full hd installation of dpup482b5 including service patch on an ext4 partition. The only added software is synaptic and sfs installer which was used to install dpup_devx_482.

After a successful download of packages to be installed, it stops with the same error as previously. Apt-patch has been installed.
E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libc6

I'm amazed that we can get a successful download. For the time being, this installation will be devoted only to trying to install software using synaptic. It's definitely worth the wait to get this capability.

Cheers,
Jim

OK guys...

Wait 15 mins for new synaptic to upload.

There is a new APT/Synaptic in addons....please start with a Fresh install or pfix=ram ... no need foe devx at this stage

1.) Download new synaptic
2.) Install synaptic
3.) do apt-get update or open synaptic and click reload
4.) if you did apt-get udate, open synaptic
5.) Then go to Libraries and install libc6

Thisshould complete normally then you should be right

Reports please....

A little background for those interested....

As you maybe aware, Puppy is a single root user, single run-level distro. The problems encountered getting apt to work in this environment are many(APT was designed to run in multi-user, multi-runlevel environment).

In fact some of the system level changes I have instituted in Dpup synaptic, have gone a fair way towards multi-user...I can envisage in the not to distant future, an addon for Dpup that will convert it to full multi-user, multi run-level disto. Whilst this will never be standard, it will be an available addition to Dpup's considerable flexibility.

EDIT: These changes and the ability to use APT/Synaptic in Dpup, will translate quite easily to Puppy 5.0 Upup as well...

Cheers

ok guys...slight problem with the new apt...before you reboot your Dpup with new synaptic,

Do This

go to /sbin, delete init and rename init-BB to init...

That should allow you to reboot, if you don't change the init setting Dpup will look for multi-runlevel boot, which is not set up yet.

Cheers

gposil,

I've already experienced the situation you just described......so I've already reinstalled .........again :) ........and am ready to install the service pack and the Synaptic pet again.

The error we were having did not occur and things were fine....till I rebooted. Here goes another try.........

Update later.

I've been futzing with this for several hours, I'm sure I just don't know enough to get this right, but here goes- I tried these instructions
please start with a Fresh install or pfix=ram ... no need foe devx at this stage

1.) Download new synaptic
2.) Install synaptic
3.) do apt-get update or open synaptic and click reload
4.) if you did apt-get udate, open synaptic
5.) Then go to Libraries and install libc6
using pfix=ram and got weirdness upon rebooting, which was the runlevel issue addressed earlier. Then I rebooted with an earlier pupsave and tried just uninstalling the synaptic package in PPM. I grabbed the new synaptic and installed it, tried installing hydrogen drum machine and got
E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on debconf
Then I booted into Windows and deleted all the pupsaves and did a fresh frugal install from my original dpup beta 5 disk. After rebooting and creating a fresh pupsave, I got the new synaptic again, did apt-get update, installed libc6 from within Synaptic, tried installing hydrogen again and got the familiar libc6 error.

I think for tonight I'm done. Sorry if this description is lacking, I was in a groove and didn't take the time to thoroughly document things, it's my best recollection of the way things happened.

I do have a question though regarding pfix=ram. I did all this on my old eMachine because I was scared of borking the setup on my laptop. Is using pfix=ram intended to preserve a current setup or intentionally start from scratch?

edit: first error description

On a full hd installation of dpup482b5 including service patch on an ext4 partition. The only added software is synaptic and sfs installer which was used to install dpup_devx_482.

Tried to install Gramps with updated Synaptic, it downloaded OK, and stopped during installation with this error:
E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on debconf
