problems with GeForce 8300 and LCD 1680x1050 Subject description: Xorg refuses this resolution, I tricked XVesa to work with it. |
|
I have Asus M4N78PRO board with onboard VGA Nvidia GeForce 8300. My monitor is LCD LG L226WU, with native resolution 1680x1050, connected to DVI-d output. I use Puppy 4.3.1.
* When booting from CD, after choosing XORG > 1680x1050 > test > I get working picture with resolution 1280x1024. There is no way to increase the resolution, whatever I do.
* When booting from CD, after choosing XVESA, i get a xwindows backround image with a cross cursor in the middle and my computer freezes and I have to press reset. (Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace nor anything else does not react.)
* I booted to the XORG 1280x1024, made a frugal installation to a SD card. XORG didnt even offer higher resolutions than that, so I switched to XVESA, rebooted, and after this I finally could change the resolution to the LCD-native 1680x1050.
If anybody has similar problems, I hope my way to get around them may be helpful.
If anybody has any ideas how I could get XORG to work with 1680x1050, I would appreciate it as XORG should be better accelerated.
Puppy is Great and I love it, even though it is not perfect.
