m trying to use the headphone jack in my CPU.
Based on the specs sheet here:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/S ... _placement
my computer would have the ADI SoundMAX 2.0 Integrated Audio Driver (ADI 1885 chip set) if my computer had built in sound, which it does not.
I started configuring with ALSA and it says I can choose from 4 soundcards:
ens1371 1274:1371 (rev 09)
legacy Probe: legacy ISA (non-PNP chips)
usb-audio Override: USB Sound Device
aoa Override: Apple Onboard Audio
I configured with each one but except the legacy probe (because it may make my machine unstable) but I couldn't hear the sample sound. I rebooted and still didn't have any sound.
I wa then told that I needed to open up Alsamixer and set it to headphones. I click Alsamixer in the Menu but a white box popped up for about .5 sec and then disappeared???? Do I need to uninstall Alsamixer and reinstall it?
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Can't Open Alsamixer
Alsamixer is a graphical mixer program for the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA). It is used to configure sound settings and to adjust the volume. It has an ncurses user interface and does not require the X Window System. It supports multiple sound cards with multiple devices.

Alsamixer looks like it works, but doesnt
The Alsa mixer says i have four sound cards. I select one, it says ok, then it does NOTHING.
There isnt even a volume control icon in Puppy Linux 5.2!
Not sure where the problem is. It has NO sound.
