Hi ttuuxxx,

I had some problems when I switched The "us" keyboard layout to Latin American. At boot a error message was shown and the new layout config was not applied. I solved it downloading the full keymaps file from http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=49902, then I searched the right one, compressed it and copied the missing latam.gz file.

A little request ttuuxxx:

- Add the missing latam.gz file to /lib/keympas directory (I attached the right keymap file to this post, there are different Spanish keyboard layout versions)
- Remove any OpenSSH dead weight from 214X, that´s a search and delete not working applications task. As far as I know ssh, ssh-agent, ssh-keygen binaries do not work.

Many thanks ttuuxxx.

For example, adding PKEYS=fr will load /lib/keympas/fr.gz keymap at boot.

214X also has a Keyboard/Mouse Wizard to set the right keyboard layout.

thanks clarf for your help Smile
....but i'm often running live with no pupsave and it's boring stuf remastering i've no time for trying... Crying or Very sad
So why changing a good international option from original puppy to push away non-US keyboard users ? Shocked

(i've had same issue to convert to linux christian windows users with US-keyboard boot from livingwater Evil or Very Mad )

Hi linuxsansdisquedur,

Running live with no pupsave is another history, I believe I could add the needed code in the rc.local0 script.

"if no PKEYS an not /etc/keymaps then show Keyboard Config Dialog".

I´ll look tonigh...

Hi Guys here's a Gnome Address-book application called Rubrica that has some really good features, It took about 4 hrs to get it working properly. The reason why it took so long well because its made for Gnome and not puppy, it compiled fine but was missing 26 gnome icons, and it wouldn't tell me the names in any error reports, So I had to trial and error the icons, also looked for icon names in all the sources etc. And also for some odd reason 90% of control panel was in English and 2 of them were in Spanish, lol so i had to search and change the 2 Spanish names found in a glade file. The funny part is that I don't use address books and will probably never use this applications but I hope one of you find it handy. I include the 2 deps it needed in the pet.
ttuuxxx

Here are some key features of "Rubrica":

File format, import, export:

· Rubrica's file format is xml
· Rubrica can import addresses from GnomeCard
· Rubrica can import addresses from Kabc, the Kde addressbook
· Rubrica can import addresses from VCard file
· Rubrica can import from csv file (generated by Netscape 4.x and Mozilla)
· Rubrica will import from Pine addressbook

Rubrica can export his addressbooks to HTML:

· Rubrica can export his addressbooks to txt
· Rubrica can export his addressbooks to VCard
· Balsa, Kmail, Kaddressbook, GnomeCard can load exported addressbooks to VCard

Managed data (data that you can store about contact):

· Personal data: contact's first name, middle name, last name, name prefix, title, profession, birthday
· Address: street, street number, city, zip code, province, state, country
· Net: web urls (unlimited number), emails (unlimited number)
· Telephone: telephone numbers (unlimited number) and telephone type (home, work, fax,...)
· Company infos; company (society) where contact works: company name, street, street number, zip code, city, province, country, web page, email, operator, fax, green, customer care, notes
· job; (contact role in company): assigment, organization, department, sub department, secretary name, secretary phone
· Notes: contact's spouse name, spouse birthday, marriage anniversary (if contact is married), children notes (if contact has got children), hobbies, public key, other notes

GUI, navigation tools:

· Multiple document opened at same time
· User can choose fonts and colour of showed data
· Rubrica GUI has two main window, in the left one rubrica shows all addresses contained in addressbook, while in the rigth one shows data contained in the selected address.
· four buttons are available for navigation. first (show the first card in addressbook), last (show the last card in addressbook), next (show the next card) and prev (show the previous)
· It is available a search tool. You can search a card by first name, last name, country, city, email, web urls, and more

I started comping it but it had a lot of errors, probably because it was made for another type of operating system, That program also uses a 21MB dep found at http://swtch.com/plan9port/
very strange program

Updated rubrica above, this version is 211kb smaller with no loss of functions, I systemlinked 2.14X icons and deleted about 90% of the default ones. Also when I went to package the first version it said libral was a dep, they even posted a source link for download, So I compiled libral. but when I looked after, I noticed I had 2 libral versions in the package, So this version I started from scratch and only compiled libnotify and rubrica and didn't bother with libral, sure enough it wasn't needed Smile So combined with the system links almost 50% smaller. Plus it looks way better Smile

Hi guys I manually updated 3.6 Firefox RC1 Yesterday(Firefox 3.7 is still at alpha1) and well If you want to also this how. Since 1/2 the plugins aren't working yet I'm not going to build a package yet

step one download http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/3.6rc1-candidates/build1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-3.6rc1.tar.bz2
step 2 move the copy or move the package to /lib
step 3 delete /lib/firefox folder
step4 click the package and extract it in /lib so now you have a new /lib/firefox folder Smile
step 5 start firefox from the menu or desktop and enjoy Smile

if you install Firefox 3.6 and want a English only version of Down Them All plugin Here it is, I removed all the locals about 1mb worth expanded/200kb compressed and also that really large un-tasteful Donate to paypal banner, Sure having donate banners on websites are cool, people have to eat Wink But when you go overboard in the size on a plugin is a bit extreme, I figure they have a big enough one at there website, also its a gpl plugin so It should be legit to alter it.

to install it just extract the xpi from the tar.gz then right click on select Send To--->Defaultbrowser and it should start up the install straight away.

Hi i compiled GSeptica Gnome card game, on this thread for 2.14X, on that thread is detailed instructions on how I managed to get it working on puppy without extra gnome libs.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=381266#381266
also if you just want to skip that and download the the 313kb pet here's a direct link

and if you want to read about it and view a image, I did that in the Quirky release. But use the pet from above Smile

here's the last version of Xchat, a lot of times I compile something for another puppy version then come back and compile it on 2.14X Smile Sure xchat is just IRC client, but when I look at Gaim its almost 1MB compressed and xchat is 278kb almost 750kb difference compressed. That is a lot of space I could always provide a link to meebo for the extra free clients. http://www.meebo.com/ meebo does AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, plus games, video chat, and file transfer. .

here's the latest Uget file downloader, I compiled it on another page but this is a English version that uses puppy's sounds, Its as small as I get it Smile in other words, you need both files below

The next 2.14x release I'll add libnotify to the build because its so small and many apps these days depend on it, I also compiled another version with libnotify disabled and the end result was a 400% increase in the pet package size for some strange reason.

Hi, I could add the necessary code to show keyboard layout menu at first boot. Very Happy

This change include three files updates (really small updates nothing to worry about). In rc.local0 file I commented the code to assign a default us map, in xwin is the full keyboard-layout menu, updated key-maps descriptions and keymap load code, in xorgwizard there's an update to save the right key-map configuration using Xorg.

How I tested it: I booted 214X with pfix=ram parameter, then I copied the related files (included in the attached .zip file) and finally I remastered this Puppy in a new ISO file. Now at very first boot the keyboard layout menu is shown (Also active When no /etc/keymap file is present and no PKEYS parameter is passed at boot time Wink ), the keyboard chosen here is loaded and the /etc/keympa file is created.

Whit this addition the boot time is increased by 1 second in my machine. Normally this code will be activated at first boot only.

Greetings,
clarf
