Joystick not working |
|
When I run Gxmame in terminal, I get:
** Message: Loading gamelist
** Message: Loaded 6166 roms by 519 manufacturers covering 32 years.
** Message: with 231 games supporting samples.
** Message: catver not loaded, using default values
** Message: time elapsed:2.577627e+00
Would the 'catver not loaded, using default values' have anything to do with my joystick not working?

@CRF
These message have nothing to do with your joystick.
To get your joystick and joypads working, you need to plugin the joystick and type the following in the terminal:
| Code: |
modprobe joydev
modprobe analog |
Or you can just install the dot pet file I made for you.. It loads at startup - so if you've plugged in your joystick by the time your desktop is loaded, should be found and working.
So your device should b ready to use...
However to set the controls in MAME, you must press the TAB key to enter the required menu.
Hope that helps.

I tried as suggested with no luck. I figured out how to pull the menu in mame using tab and I think I messed up some settings. How do I restore them to original?
I'm using Puppy Stardust 4, which is a 4.31 on my laptop. On my desktop I am using NOP 413 with no problems running arcade and my joystick does work.

That should be all that is required is to get it working...
As I don't use Stardust (and have never tried it) and don't know what laptop you're using (and almost certainly don't have the same one!), I can't exactly what is going wrong for you..
Possibly your joystick isn't liked by Stardust.. But I can't be sure..
About resetting the controls in MAME, delete /root/.xmame and /root/.gxmame, (these are hidden folders), then open up your Puppy Arcade sfs file, and copy /root/.gxmame and /root/.xmame from the sfs to your /root/ folder...
This should give you the default install settings for MAME..

Puppy Arcade 6 has now been released (27th Jan, 2010) and has a new thread here.
Changes: It features a much nicer desktop experience, and is much more user-friendly, with a JWM only desktop.. no ROX desktop - so it's nice and fast... Better apps selection.
Updated some emulators - vice was added, pcsx replaces pSX, gens was updated, better emulator settings and frontends now include links to help files..
Emulators can now ALL be configured through the Control Panel.
Seamonkey is the browser.
Check it out - Puppy Arcade 6

It works great for me, I tested with a few games, on different PCs, I cant believe how quick it is without OpenGL!!
Thanks very much Nikukyu...
It has been included in Puppy Arcade 6

Thank you very mach, sc0ttman
There was an effect that made a PET file.
It doesn't expect it of Japanese English language skill.
It is difficult to speak, and to hear it though it can be understood to write in English.
It incidentally made it.

Thanks again Nikukyu, I tried it... It was missing some libs for me, so I made it again, with all libs included. Now it works for me.

Actually, yabause is SegaSaturn emulator of development on the way.
Though it only has to be able to operate quickly like pcsx...

Hmm... I can't remember if Yabause allows for booting from original Saturn game discs. I'll have to check. (I know, it's not too far along, but still... (Or, at least it was the last time I looked at it. I'll admit I haven't followed Yabause's development as much as I probably should. It's probably been quite a while.))

I've used mame for years at home with my arcade projects, but I haven't used many other emulators, Funny my mame systems I use a copy of windows 95 that I purchased on ebay for like $10, well I wanted it as lite as possible and win95 does that, plus I never add to them or go online so I don't need antivirus/firewall etc. Really its Ideal for mame. Funny that its the only time I think MS is good for anything, well Photoshop and Dreamweaver, three reasons, lol
Anyways this project looks very cool, I'm tempted to test it on my systems, but I would have to spend more time on finishing the up first. Not enough hours in the day.
On this thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=402443#402443
we are looking for a TI 99/4A (Texas instruments pc from the late 70's/early 80's)
any Ideas on a TI 99/4A emulator that actually works on puppy?
thanks for your time

MESS does (http://www.mess.org/), but offhand, I'm not sure what it would take to get it working under Puppy, even any SDL versions of MESS that might be out there. It would also require the TI-99/4A system roms, of course.

TI system roms can be found a plenty. Also, some of the TI emulators build thier own roms. Problem is that I have not been able to get even one of the emulators to compile. I may try Puppy Arcade with its MESS system to see if I can run the TI emulator that works through MESS. However, I'd prefer it to run without the use of an additional emulator, as I fail to see the point of using an emulator to run an emulator.
