Hiyas,

I'm having some problems with my wireless atmel at76c503 USB radio network card (actually a Tekram U300C card); under puppy linux 0.9.7 I could do this --

modprobe at76c503-rfmd
modprobe at76c503-rfmd-acc
modprobe at76c503-i3861
modprobe at76c503-i3863
modprobe at76c505-rfmd
modprobe at76c505-rfmd2958

which worked under puppy 0.9.7 .... but it dosen't seem to work under the latest puppy linux (1.0.2). I tried doing modprobe atmel but it didn't seem to work either. Do I have to recompile new drivers, or use ndiswrapper?

thanks

ljones

That's because the drivers are missing from 1.0.2.
The driver package was for 2.4 kernel, I think I can get hold of driver source tarball for 2.6 kernel, but haven't done so yet -- I did see the source in Mandrake 10.1 -- could grab it from there.

The problem with 1.0.2 is known and has been reported in the Bugs section. I have had no joy with NDISWRAPPER and ATMEL. Suggest that you stay with Puppy 1.0.1 or earlier for the time being. Hopefully the ATMEL support for the 2.6 kernel will be in 1.0.3.
Incidentally, you don't have to issue all the modprobes to get your device recognised. The Berlios site lists the Tekram U300C as having the 3861 radio. so you could try just modprobe at76c503-i3861
Using usbview afterwards would show if the device has been claimed by the driver. If not, more modprobes would be needed.

Been a bit sidetracked as of late but for now I'll stick with the previous version of puppy. Unfortunatly I don't have any copies of mdk 10.1, only 10 which I guess won't work?

Versions 1.0.1 and 1.0.3 of Puppy are both based on kernel 2.4.27 and have the support for ATMEL at76c503 wireless chips. I don't know about versions of Puppy before 0.9.8, but my devices worked fine with 0.9.8 - 1.0.0 also.
You should be able to modprobe the modules and when the card is claimed iwconfig should show wlan0. You won't need MDK for this if Puppy sees the device.

Hope this helps.
