Kdenlive 0.7.7 for LHP 443

#1 Post by battleshooter »

A warning....http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 464#420464

For Puppy versions earlier than 4.3.x, try PupGeek's Kdenlive. Haven't tested it personally, but I heard it works.

Also for a smaller Kdenlive (42MB) for 4.3.1, scroll down a bit. It's still experimental however

Kdenlive 0.7.7 SFS 69 MB
MD5 checksum

Alternatively here's a pet: http://www.divshare.com/download/10280312-066

Probably best not to uninstall it once installed.

Requires KDE 4 and SDL

Easy way of getting KDE 4 is to use Lighthouse Pup by Tazoc. LHP is based off the latest official Puppy release 4.3.1, with some very cool touches. My Puppy of choice currently.

Kdenlive is a free open-source video editor for GNU/Linux and FreeBSD, which supports DV, AVCHD (experimental support) and HDV editing. Kdenlive relies on several other open source projects, such as FFmpeg and MLT video framework.

The software was designed to answer all needs, from basic video editing to semi-professional work.

If you just wanted to test this SFS, I'd suggest testing on a pupsave you don't really care about because I think SFSs replace stuff when they're mounted and when they're unmounted the stuff they replaced is will no longer be there. I need to clarify on that point because right now I'm pretty lost on the whole making pets and SFSs game.

One more thing, feel free to rename the SFS as I stupidly named it "SFS" and only noticed after it was uploaded. If folks are using a Full installation, I've uploaded the pets too, just haven't written down the links, there are loads of dependencies.

Ok. To tell the truth I have double motives in posting this SFS. The first thing folks who know what they're about are going to notice is this SFS is unnecessarily big. On the plus side, if ya ever wanna compile anything you've got all the headers. But I know this is quite a disgrace to Puppy as the in thing is small as possible. I mean, it makes sense and I have no problem with that, but er, I need help. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to packaging stuff. Could someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to SFS download the giant and tell me what's safe to delete? Also it would be great if someone could explain the whole stripping packages deal. I tried doing it for my Cinelerra package, but I ended up with loads of dependency errors, so I just uploaded the pets without being stripped.

well I for one couldn't care less what stuff is in there as long as it works,- and anyone who's doing video editing really isn't going to worry about having an app taking 69M ;)

Good work! :)

Kind regards

Yes, I agree with Dave. Looks great, Battleshooter! I renamed it and mirrored on http://www.lhpup.org/download443.htm#multimedia.

Sometimes I remove the demos, docs and man files, especially gtk-doc but they weren't large enough to matter on this one. Often packagers will separate the /usr/share/locale localization files into a separate package but here again it wasn't large enough to do that.

I read something about stripping on Barry's Blog but I don't remember what he said. /usr/bin was 44M uncompressed. I just stripped /usr/bin/kdenlive from 20M down to 2.7M and the app still runs with no errors in a terminal, but I didn't actually open/edit/save a vid yet.

Looked like /usr/lib was the biggest piece, 116M, maybe some of the libs are in LHP but might need your versions anyway.

Very good job and thank you,
TazOC

Nothing like a good stripping and sounds like it needs it.
I usually use strip without any options and avoid using it on kernel modules.
With a kde setup the program itself was pretty small and so is the mlt it runs on.
Someone cut kde libs down to 10MB for running k3b on here.

Its that 'oh look how tiny it is ' satisfaction that makes us think size is important.

I think openoffice weaned me of being minimalistic.

I just need to spend time getting the hang of transitions and outputting to a format I want

Thanks for the thumbs up Dave and Tazoc, glad to hear it's working. Thanks for the mirror too Tazoc, it's an honor to be on LHP's site :)

Don't worry Mike, I won't leave Kdenlive as it is, I know it still needs a lot of work, but now I've actually made a successful SFS I think I'm feeling a bit more confident to give it a good stripping and shrinking. I like it how Puppians go to the effort to make things small, I feel it's one of the things that help us differ from the crowd in that we actually care about size.

Don't worry Mike,
size is something I don't worry about ... :D

Talking of stripping I saved 5mb stripping the default libs in puppy 4.12

Kdenlive_lightened-0.7.7_443.sfs 42MB
MD5sum: 8157b54f21a052c6ecd03c5634d0aa3c

Ok, here's my latest offering. I had ago at stripping the Kdenlive sfs. 42MB. Somehow I'm not pleased. I guess I wanted it smaller still. Kdenlive seems to be a very big package. Let's see what did I remove?

Got rid of the documentation in /usr/share. 5MB
Got rid of /usr/include/ and any folder titled "man". 3MB
A folder called in /usr/share called "locale" 2MB

The whopper slice was mostly from stripping the bin folder, but now what? It's still huge and I haven't even tried adding KDE libs to make it a standalone package like K3B. I suppose from what I've heard, I think it was what Ttuuxxx said, the next thing to do is to go around deleting everything and seeing if there's an error... But man! That sounds tedious. I might leave it as is. Hopefully I'll be content at sweeping off 30MB. Hopefully. I'll probably go and work on my Cinelerra SFS.

BTW, sorry about the new countdown download thing, I've hunting around for a new file host.

Hey that's a big saving.

When I was putting together kde desktop/koffice this sort of size was to be expected but once done adding kde apps is just like puppy...eg k3b adds just 2.8 MB, khexedit less than 1MB.
One big puppy bonus is that kde/qt4 runs much faster due to the absence of the countless background daemons running...some distros are as bad as vista.

I think getting kdenlive running on nimblex was about an extra 4-5 MB...those core libs are the main bulk.

regards and nice one

Actually, most of my Roxapps, including Kdenlive are big... they do not contain the headers or dev stuff, but they have all the dependencies self-contained (or at least they try to). That was my intended goal, however. Minimally packaged apps are for people who are more experienced with linux and puppy. My roxapps are aimed at those without such experience or desire to be always tweaking their systems. It's all a matter of preference, really.

Hi Rameshiyer,

I'm uploading the pet right now. The pet is 43MB and when installed it will take up 137MB. All dependencies except SDL and KDE is included. Let me know if it works.

Hey Rameshiyer,

You're missing KDE4. I'd recommend using LighthousePup if you're not using it already. No one has come up with a stand alone KDE4 package yet. I was thinking about it, but I don't see any point as LighthousePup comes with it anyway.

I have not tested and do not recommend Lighthouse SFS add-ons with a full install as this may overwrite files in the base install. The order in which SFS are installed in a full install can also be critical as each one may overwrite files of the previous. If you want to try it anyway, PetMakerPlus, if I recall can install SFS in a full install.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40457

What is recommended and tested is a frugal install of Lighthouse with the Mariner and KDE SFS plus the SDL pet in the first post and Kdenlive.

Hope that helps,

@ Tazoc,

But it should technically be fine shouldn't it? As long as Rameshiyer installs the pets in the correct order and never uninstalls them, there should be no problem? First, Mariner, then the KDE and then Kdenlive, wouldn't that work out alright?

If not, I'll see if I can figure out a pet with just the KDE4 libs Kdenlive requires. I just need to know what Puppy you're using Rameshiyer.

Hi Battleshooter,
I don't know, but if Rameshiyer has a preference for the full install and tells us which version of Lighthouse he has full-installed I could try it myself. I don't know how to make it work with standard Puppy, but I think he's OK with that.

Dear All

Please note that I have installed Puppy 4.3 in one partition and Quiry.006 in another partition. Both are working fine. However, only problem, I am not able to launch Kdenlive.pet after installation. My question is if pet package is failed to work whether sfs installation solve my problem. I hoe SFS file can be installed through method suggested by you.

I have downloaded latest Lighthouse Puppy, but failed to stgartup ?

Thanks for continuing help.
