Puppy Stardust 006
Stardust 007 is release here
This is still Puppy 4.3.1 - thanks to Barry for this wonder-OS

Focus on desktop flow and user easiness.
- Desktop in DeepThougt taken to next stage.
- Cleanup in apps, menus and kilobytes.

Comments version 006
This version contains 2 new tools.
- Pizzasgood made an app to set your default apps (texteditor, mediaplayer...). This was made for Puppy 2.1.5, and I think it's the time to wake this up from the dead. It had to be modified a little bit to work in a Puppy 4 system. The amount of default-apps has doubled since 2.1.5.
- The other tool is Pmenu. It gives you better control of the new menu(s) structure. If you like the old program-menu for mouse-right-click, it is now easily changed. Pmenu also gives you the possibility to recreate the old 4.3.1 menu. Stardust has removed a lot of menu-items, but these are now returnable via Pmenu. Because of this, - the system menu has returned. What is done is simply moving .desktop files to /usr/share/applications_nomenu instead of deleting them.
As you can see of the changelog, many apps has been updated for Stardust 006. We have steady maintainers of our Puppy apps. lameSMBexplorer has now reached version 0.1.5b. There has been some complains about Pnethood is missing. I would encourage users to test the latest lameSMBexplorer, and give feedback to patriot.
Many of us cares about weather, and tasmod has released a powerful weather-station widget.
Xf-prot installer in Puppy 4.3.1 / Stardust does not work. Discussed in this forum thread. It would have been great if someone looked into this, and made an updated pet......
This iso is smaller than the previous And I believe that the next one will be even smaller.

Here is the good old Stardust icon-theme updated for Puppy Stardust (thanks to 01micko)
The following list shows many items that is taken out of the iso. But, it is not as critical as it seems. Most of these are tiny apps, and you have not been aware of many of them. Simply because other apps do the job.
Aqualung has left, and Pmusic is back. Pmusic has evolved in both features and speed, so It is more a matter of longterm strategy. I hope it will be possible to build more around ffmpeg in the future. We could hopefully get rid of lidsnd, libsamplerate and maybe libxine...
Gadmin-Rsync is out as well, since it crashed on first run. I don't think Pbackup fill the backup issue completely. It would be wonderful if there exists a tiny but complete backup suit.
If you see something that you would have changed, added or removed, I will be very glad if you mentioned it. Because of my limited time, it would be best if you deliver the patch.... My knowledge of network/internet tools is close to zero, so these are nearly untouched.
Possible improvement is easy to see
- icon theme in vector graphics for space saving.
- alternative multimedia tools using ffmpeg.
- hunt more files we don't need.
- upgrade gui in some of the scripts.
- extend the control center.
- replacement of Gparted (901kb)
- boot Puppy with pfix=fsck
- compile mhwaveedit without libsndfile
- driver adds/updates
- ...
This is meant to be a full featured user-oriented Puppy....Though, I have to admit that the biggest modem drivers is removed.

Stardust 005 to 006
Delta File
pup_stardust-005.iso:pup_stardust-006.iso.delta (2.6MB)
Checksum: 16d562859b38a6d7b004226df05b5070 pup_stardust-005.iso:pup_stardust-006.iso.delta
Just save the delta in the same dir as the 005 iso and click!!! How easy is that??
Be sure to check the md5sum of the resultant iso such that it matches zigbert's in the main post before you burn/install.
Cheers
(NB: As new deltas go up I am deleting old ones. Thanks gposil for server space.)

A problem with alsamixer... I only ran it once from the menu..

The new version 0.5 changed this file to allow command line options. The old version file is still in /usr/sbin.

Zigbert,
I've looked at f-prot and can confirm it's the installer that's the problem as I've had it running standalone.
I have had it running and scanning files in cli, as well as updating anti-virus definitions.
I did not use the installer, just copied across the files and changed the name of the config file from default to just config.
I will look at it but no promises as it's in Python.
Ahh, maybe that's the problem, is Python installed in Stardust ?

I have to say that speed of new versions is amazing. Still using 002 because it works for me. But maybe every fifth upgrade version would be reasonable speed for me. Would it be possible to use savefile from 002 to 006 ?
XF-prot hasnt worked in any puppies I have tried. From Choicepup 412, Choicepup 431, Puppy 431 to Stardust. I had need for it because of my mother got nasty trojan from mail attachment and I wanted to scan it from usb stick to be sure I got rid of it. Cant recognise the version error everytime.
Finally I installed clamav to upup from karmic repository and made manually all needed adjustments. There were quite alot of them.
I also would like to have click and go XF-prot possibility back. XF-prot is basically using good finnish design f-prot and it is easily installed to puppy for XP rescue use.
Thanks to Zigbert and also to everybody else who has helped to improve Stardust.

Weather station
I've been lurking on the various Stardust threads for a while as I couldn't get stock Puppy 4.3.1 to connect with my wifi ( Rt73 driver ). I decided to take the plunge and try 006 live ( pfix=ram ) and I'm posting from it now, so kudos to you and jermimah. I'm impressed, but one thing I noticed is that there doesn't appear to be any way to configure the weather station widget. It looks about right for my location, but here in the UK we use degrees Celcius nowadays. Oh and trying to change the number of desktops to 4 doesn't seem to take, unless that's something that needs a re-boot of an installed Stardust?
share folders?
Can some kindly, expert soul help me get in touch with my main computer(wired), running Windows XP? It's easy with other Puppies, but in this case I'm stymied at a message that tells me to put in the server's address, but gives no way to enter it.
Weather-Station
Hmmm, considering how many people downloaded the pet I'm surprised no-one posted about it before.
technowomble is correct, it would not run the plugin for location as it was.
The pet is called Weather-Station but I used the hyphen name in the code, ohhh no, it doesn't like that!
So, I've re-written the calls with hyphens and now petted it up again.
It's so small I'll post it here as well as pwidgets forum.

Actually I was thinking about just simply taking my USB key with Stardust 005 on it and simply replace pup-431.sfs on the key with the one from the Stardust 006 iso.
I am hoping that after booting up I would be able to use the existing configurations in the save file but now in Stardust 006.
Sorry if I wasn't precise enough in my first post.
As always - any help or comments appreciated - Bernhard
