Thanks - got it downloaded and burned. Booted LiveCD - works fine. Where is the 'universal installer'? I went to install and I can't find the installer in the 'more' menu of apps.

No installer...

Open the Terminal and type:
# puppyinstaller

on older machine which connected w beta2, but wouldn't boot when installed, b3 boots from cd to a blank, black desktop...i thought, 'seriously minimal' right-clicked, saw a menu, tried connecting to familiar w-less network, all same same as worked before.

failed, ended with this message [when i clicked 'details']:

so i switched to a newer machine with builtin w-less
which b3 detected but failed to connect, with the message
wpa_state=associating...connection point not associated

then i put the marvell card in the external card slot
which worked a couple of weeks ago but b3
failed with the same message as on the older machine.

the newer machine gave the expected grey desktop
i haven't had a chance to try a wired connection yet

I note that the latest version is based on pup 4.1.2 and not 4.3.1
Could you tell me the reason for this.

I want Browserlinux Chrome as small as possible. If you like 4.3.1 (with SMP kernel) you can use Browserlinux Firefox.
What is the project you are working on?

I see that the 412 chrome version is 73MB whereas the previous 431 based FF is 77MB.

My query about why going back to a 412 base was whether we lose some ability to install to a wider range of hardware. I don't know the answer but suspect that 431 has slightly better capability there. Also a bit surprised that 412 offered much saving in size. Not doubting you at all, just expressing my slight surprise. Clearly to save 4MB you feel it's worth it.

I have 2 personal projects (very small and nothing as clever or as interesting as browserlinux) which need a very small linux base plus browser plus java. One is to run the eldy programme (senior citizen's very very simple interface) and the other...well can I keep that until I get past a proof of concept...don't want to embarass myself! I was looking at tinycore but this may be more suitable.

Lastly, your web site offers a java.pet for download but the thread here suggest downloading java. Which do you suggest?

Download the original JAVA if you want the latest.

There is/was a Browserlinux Chrome based on 4.3.1. If you don't have this version: http://browserlinux.com/iso/browserlinuxchromeb2.iso (88Mb)

I d/l chrome beta2 (based on 431) and now see it's quite a bit bigger than chrome beta3 (based on 412).

Browser Linux looks great and has everything i need, and i'd like to try the Chrome browser, but BL doesn't detect my modem. eth0 is live, DHCP is running, pppoe is configured per other puppies (i'm on Gray's excellent BoxPup 4.2.1 right now), but the Network Wizard says "no modem". what would be the next step in attempting to get online, please? TIA

No more new Browserlinux versions with Chrome.

If you want the latest (with based on Puppy 4.3.1):
Download Browserlinux (Firefox) and the Chrome installer at www.browserlinux.com

I just downloaded the latest 302.02 version of Chrome from your site and with the flashblocker operating it is extremely quick.Far quicker than any other browser I have used. The older version was quite slow on the back button but this is great. Thanks for the .pet it is most appreciated.

I removed this one, it's old (1 month )
Download Browserlinux 360 and install the Chrome PET.

Just uploaded the latest developer version with more features: 5.0.307.1 has Bookmark Sync with your Gmail-account, Grey Theme and a Google Docs PDF/Powerpoint viewer extension.
