How to play .DAT and other files in GXINE?

#1 Post by Pradip »

Hello
I am not able to run "AVSEQ03.DAT" file which is actually a media files. When I pyays it via VCD option in gxine, it opens. But individual file playing is not possible.
Steps are...
open gxine-->Goto File menu--> goto Open option-->select a file.
It gives error,

Code: Select all

"xine engine failed to start
No demuxer found - stream format not recognized"
But when I tries..
open gxine-->Goto VCD menu
then it plays through cdrom smoothly..

So is there any chances of playing this type of file??? Which media player do you prefer to run any(or most of) files format such as .DAT, mpeg, avi, etc.. ??

I prefer mplayer.

And try this xine:

I any case, you will need additional codecs:

In some cases, I had better results playing videos with the player embedded in KDE.

This file has KDE 3.4.1 and all codecs:

There are newer versions of KDE, but for example KDE-3.5.0-Puppy107 has not such good multimedia-support, it is an alphaversion.
I did not try yet KDE 3.5.1.

I've had cases where Xfmedia allowed me to show as fullscreen some DivX videos that Mplayer wouldn't show as bigger than it's basic size.

Yehh :)
Its nice Media player..

But Have you seen the Memory usage and CPU usage of MPLAYER? :shock:

It sometimes goes more than 50% of CPU and 40MB of memory usage. Is this what it should be??? I think no. Because what abt other application??

And It also crashes frequently. What should be the reason for that?

Any changes to be done in any settings or in system drivers or anything else?
I dont think drivers could be a problem as they are default... :?

configure mplayer to use the xv driver ... the x11 driver uses the cpu to do the work and it can use a lot of cpu time ... the audio may go out of sync if the cpu is not fast enough, and the x11 driver is being used

MU compiled 2 versions of mplayer ... one has xv support, the other version has x11 support but not xv support ... be sure you download the correct one

the alsa sound driver may use less cpu time than the oss driver ... or not ... but i don't think MU compiled mplayer with alsa support ... gxine does seem to support the alsa driver

PID USER STATUS RSS PPID %CPU %MEM COMMAND
8690 root R 12M 864 3.3 5.7 mplayer

this shows mplayer using about 12M = 5.7% of ram ... 3% of the cpu time

i have not noticed that mplayer crashes often ... i'm not sure that mplayer has ever crashed on my machine ... i use mplayer most of the time to play movies, because i find it works well on my machine
