On first run, rightclick on root and choose the option to generate the dynamic menu.

If you've allready installed openbox:
This package will NOT override any files in $HOME (user-settings) , with the exception of the generated menu.
On the other side that means, that the package will use your 'old' settings. If you want to use/test the defaults of this package, rename $HOME/.config/openbox to $HOME/.config/OLDopenbox before running the new package.
The package installs it's defaults to /etc (systemwide settings).
If you have 'modded' any of the default-themes in /usr/share/themes backup before installing.

Compiled and tested in 4.31.

If you need a panel, look for a lxpanel, fbpanel, tint2 .... An actual lxpanel-package could be found here:

If you only need a tray, look for stalonetray.

Openbox-Menu
If you're using the above linked lxpanel, you might want to use a corresponding structure/sorting. If so, install openbox-menu, a menu-generator that also uses menu-cache from lxde. For instructions how to activate the new mechanism, please read Usr/share/doc/openbox-menu/README.PUPPY.

A 'downside' should be mentioned: The applications-menu is a submenu (see pic below). Other than that, it works fine.

If you want to run this 'standalone' (without lxpanel) you'll need at least menu-cache from the above link.

..stardust007 (but then I added a big-ish wine and Neutral ) - how does one go about getting 'dedicated' icons to display (in lxpanel's tasklist particularly) for various console(s), it always shows the generic and I have to hover for the tooltip (life is harD). Nice upgrade, differences are subtle but noticeable even from 3.4.4 or 3.4.7.2.. (mostly just more responsive)

Hope you get lxpanel to use something a bit more durable and/or selective (over 1k symlinks for me until I weeded and redid) than /tmp/icons dir - some folk are surprised when it needs refresh more often than it should (another 1k+ syms, some of which suffer from clumsy naming/path conventions .. no wonder it or fbpanel hog on refresh!)

(see next article) - Good news, I've been using an older lxpanel that's a little looser (but a bit tedious to manually redo menus if there's several different lx profiles with the menu plugin) .. yep, that alphabetical sort kind of disregards the submenu categories as well if I recall correctly how it does the simplification into a 'system' rather than full-text of all menu items&etc Neutral (depending on how one prefers the sort, xdg method may still appeal to the menu 'traditionalists'). I've found lxpanel to be a decent 'universal' panel applet when it settles in even with the fairly simple pager (lol, on one pup the wincmd to minimize will iconize the panel itself as well, so no real need for autohide Smile )

yes i've seen that, it might be the problem, that there is no 'generic icon'... e.g. if i'm using sakura terminal it shows the sakura icon...

lxpanel in it's actual version is using menu-cache from the lxde-project to build the menu. it does find 'most' puppy-icons (for the missing 3-4 i've no clue atm). problematic are the the top-menu-icons that are not found, but ok that are only 10 symlinks (that are not frequently updated).
a 'downside' is, that the menu is allways sorted alpabetically so there is a difference to the 'traditional' puppy-sorting. but i've found an app for openbox that also uses menu-cache, so it will be possible to have both sorted the same way. will upload both packages tomorrow (i hope).

added openbox-menu to the first post. it's an alternative menu-generator that uses menu-cache from lxde. if you're using lxpanel with openbox you could use openbox-menu to get similar menu structure/sorting like in lxpanel.
